Hello,

I have a computer with Windows 8 Professional x86 installed on it. My problem is that when I try to use my web camera either while I am playing a game or while I am using Skype, I get random BSOD. Looking the dump files with BlueScreenView I get the above Bug Check String and drivers that caused the BSOD.

ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY ntoskrnl.exe
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL USBPORT.SYS
KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED halmacpi.dll

By looking for a solution on the Internet I have done the following until now:
1) Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8
2) Checked with a different web camera (still getting BSOD)
3) Use sfc /scannow. It didn't find any problem in my system
4) Tried to change my RAM module in case it is problematic, by using a different module and another slot on my motherboard
5) Run memtest for hours (no problem)
6) Updated all of my drivers in their latest version

I am out of ideas, how can I do to solve this problem...

Can someone help me with that?

Thank you in advance

It is a computer made by me. The specs are the following:
CPU: AMD A4-3400 APU
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6450
RAM: Kingston 2GB DDR3 module 1333Mhz (1 dimm)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-A55M-S2V
HDD: Western Digital 160GB
PSU: Deer DR-8400BTX 400W

The Web Camera is a Microsoft LifeCam HD-3000. I have also used a Logitech that I took from a friend but I don't remember the model now...

All the parts were bough in the second quarter of 2011.

Are you using any USB hubs or anything of the sort ? Have you tried a different USB port ? The error seems to be pointing at a USB issue.

Find an Uninstall Software like Revo Uninstaller, then remove any Camera Drivers completely, then do the following below :

When was the last time you updated your BIOS ? I will suggest you update any Chipset Drivers, BIOS and Video Drivers.

The next time you plug in your camera, just make sure you let the camera detect and use the basic windows drivers if possible.

No hubs or other USB devices are used. I have tried to use all the rear USBs on my computer, and the 2 front ones that are connected directly on my motherboard, without success.

I also removed again the camera, the chipset, the USBs and the video drivers and reinstalled them (I used Revo Uninstaller to remove all the garbage completely). My bios is on the latest version. The camera is detected by the Windows and the default driver is being installed.

I am getting again a BSOD with a different Bug Check String. Right now I get the following:
UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP caused by driver USBPORT.SYS

1. Can you find out the Temps at which your PC is running and let me know ? CPU, GPU RAM and HDD. You can use the following:
Speccy, CPUID HWMonitor, AIDA32, Core Temp or Open Hardware Monitor

2. How many devices do you have connected to USB at the time of using the WebCam ?

3. Do you have a spare Ram Module you can use instead of the current one ?

4. Can you insert the current Ram Module in a different slot and test ?

5. Download "whocrashed" from the link below, run it and it should pin point what driver if any is causing these issues

http://www.resplendence.com/downloads

5. Find "Windows 8 reliability monitor" from windows 8 search and that should also give you a very good idea what exactly is crashing the PC

6. Another thing that can help is the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. Just Run it on your PC and see what Drivers or Hardware it Flags as not Compatible. I am aware you are currently using Windows 8 but the Upgrade Assistant should still work as its job is to basically look at Hardware & Drivers.

Please keep me updated

1) CPU: 20 C
GPU: 54 C
HDD: 42 C
These values are just after the restart that followed a BSOD.

2) I don't have another device connected on my PC. Just the WebCamera.

3) Yes, I have already tried with another module and I still get BSOD.

4) I have also tried the second slot on my motherboard, with the old module and with the new one two without success.

5) This is the report of WhoCrashed. The conclusion is to update ntkrpamp.exe. I can't understand which is the driver that this file points. If you can give some help with that, I will be glad.

This might be a case of memory corruption. More often memory corruption happens because of software errors in buggy drivers, not because of faulty RAM modules. There is a possibility this problem was caused by a virus or other malware.

6) It didn't flag any drivers or hardware as incompatible. Just some installations (an old game and an old version of Mozilla Firefox) that I don't believe have something to do with the BSOD.

Thanks for posting back. Is it possible to outline all the programs/software installed on your PC currently including Anti Virus Software ?

Also use Revo uninstaller to remove the Old games and Mozilla installations that were flagged if possible.

I will let you know what to install after I see the list of programs. Another thing to do is to let you configure Windows to create dump files automatically after any BSOD which can then be downloaded, achieved and uploaded here so I can have a deeper look at exactly which driver is causing the BSOD's.

I think that dump files are automatically created because I can see them with BlueScreenViewer and WhoCrashed. Or I am making a mistake on that?

The programs that are installed in my system are the following:

3DMark 11
8GadgetPack

Yea you are right. Everything you posted basically has what i need anyway so there will be no need for dumps.

Do you have any idea when these BSOD's started ? I know they started when you were running Win 7 but do you remember if it was after an update, software/ hardware install or hardware change ?

Do you know how to use Windows Driver Verifier ?

BSOD started a long time ago so I don't remember what program I have installed then. Definitely it was not after an hardware change. After I built my system it was working properly for almost a year, and I haven't added any piece of hardware since I built it.

I have enabled Windows Driver Verifier. How do I continue now?

You will have to select the option to let it Automatically select all installed drivers on your PC. Then restart the PC. If there is a BSOD at any point, let me know.

If you have done any registry scans and repairs in the past, I would like to know.

Also before anything else, I will suggest you uninstall the following program for now if its not an inconvenience:
You can start with the 2 Anti Virus Softwares, then test the Camera after.

3DMark 11
8GadgetPack
avast! Free Antivirus
CCleaner
Crossfire Europe
Driver Genius
Easy Tune 6
Facebook Video Calling
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Nero BurnLite 10
