BSOD when over clocking i7 4770k on gene vii

I've tried just about everything to overclock this gene VII board with my i7 4770k and I've even opted to just use their auto tuning features and no matter what I do, within minutes of booting into Windows I'm getting blue screens in 8.1 for the whea uncorrectable error pointing to a hardware failure..when I load optimized defaults it goes away. I even tried just overclocking to 4.2GHz with a and the auto vcore which was coming in at 1.139 and it still crapped out on me.

Auto OC on most boards are terrible, set your Vcore to override and something high but safe (1.2v ?) and work your way down. Also if if you are adusting ring ratios also leave them alone for now and adjust them up once you're stable at 4.2 core clock

I started running prime95 and it BSO'D within like 4 minutes. It was only showing 62 degrees which i thought was fine. I guess ill have to take a look at some of the settings people have been using.. i didn't have any issues with the auto cpu config on my last board..but guess its all different.

seems to be stable so far at 4.4ghz set at 1.250 volts.

 


looks good, whats your ring ratio? CPUz also calls it north bridge frequency (in the memory tab)
 
well after a few hours to it seemed to crash..which is a bit of a let down..I might have to play with the settings a bit further. I was able to drop it down to 4.3 @ 1.125 volts and it ended up being truly stable.

I was using the XMP profile for the memory and the NB frequency was showing 3897.7 MHz
 


for the best performance you a wan to keep the NB frequency (called ring frequency in your bios) within atleast 300 mhz of the core frequency. I.e if your currenly at 4.3 ghz your ring frequency should be set to 4.0-4.3 ghz.
 


makes sense. I think in the bios it was set to auto. I'm not at home right now to look but I'll definitely double check that. Could that explain the crashing at 4.4Ghz? I mean it seemed pretty stable and the temperatures were completely fine.
 


No this is strictly effects how efficiently your memory is addressed by your cpu, it shouldnt cause much if any instability having it be too low.
