Hey people, I have a really irritating problem, that I cannot seem to fix, I would really appreciate any help available.

Whenever I play a game, it seems that at random points, the system will black screen, then BSOD with the stop code 116 and the file as atikmpg.sys, I cannot for the life of me fix it, I have tried:

  • Re installing latest drivers
    Using old drivers
    Entirely wiping drivers
    Cleaning registry
    Updating BIOS
    Flashing BIOS
    Using propriety drivers
    Running memtest: pass
Prime 95: No crash after 4 hrs
    Furmark: No crash either
    Returned Motherboard, got replacement
Returned and replaced gpu 3 times
    Reinstalled chipset drivers
Re installed windows 7, 8 times
    Underclocking CPU and GPU

None of these have worked and the crashing still happens regardless. I am concerned it is a compatibility issue between the mobo and the Gpu, or that there is a DirectX problem.

Is there anything I can do to sort this problem out before I am forced to change the motherboard or gpu for a different one?

Specs
Cpu: AMD FX6300 @ stock speed
mobo: Asus M5A97 R2.0
GPU: Asus HD7770 ghz edition @ Base speed
RAM: 8gb GEIL black dragon 1600 mhz
PSU: OCZ zs 550w

Any help would be much appreciated
