BSOD with Adobe Flash Video

Hey everyone,



So I have been trying to find an answer all over the internet with no luck. I have the HIS Radeon 4670HD AGP 1gb card.
my computer specs:

WIN XP 32 bit SP3
Foxcon 755 series mobo (socket 754)
AMD 64 3700 (2.4ghz)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS
600GS Corsair PSU (600 watts)


Here is the problem. There seems to be a problem between the ATI catalyst and drivers and adobe Flash Player (i.e. Youtube)
With the newest catalyst and drivers for my card (ver 10.12) and Flash 10.1 (hardware acceleration on) when I try to load a video I get a quick BSOD flash followed by a system reboot. Hardware acceleration off works, but flash eats up my CPU (80-100% depending on video quality settings; 480p, 720p, 1080p).

I did a lot of uninstalls and installs, system recovery, you name it I did it. Here is what I found out:

Old drivers (Catalyst version 9x) that came with the video card will work with flash 10.1 (h/w acceleration on) but video doesnt run any better with it on or off.

Newest drivers available for AGP card (10.12 via HIS radeon website) will not work with Flash 10.1 hardware acceleration on (BSOD...remember?)

ATI drivers 10.12 works with Flash 9 h/w acceleration on, but version 9 doesnt utilize the GPU for video performance.

Right now I am on the original drivers that the card came with, but it doesnt run as smoothly and fast as the driver version 10.12. I am hoping for a solution and fix before I decide to upgrade the drivers again.

This problem is only with FLASH 10.1 w/ ATI drivers 10.12. All other video works, and all games run with out a problem.

I know there are others out there with this same problem. I have already written to ATI but with no response.

HELP PLEASE!!!!

I have a feeling it's time for you to upgrade your OS, since all further support for XP has been stopped, other companies are going to be going in for other OS upgrade support for their softwares, this is going to cause problems on XP and older versions which the maker no longer supports.
It would be safer to switch to a new OS at the latest before your system becomes absolutely unrepairable.
What you could do is use a dual boot setup and have your Adobe stuff on Vista or Win7 and then work on it, if, you really want to hang onto XP.

Ha: I have exactly this problem with the Gigabyte 4650 (and A7N8X/Athlon XP 3200+). I've been searching around and I don't think there's a fix, or will ever be, unless a friendly coder customises the driver. But I'd like to know exactly why it doesn't work. I'm sure it isn't technically impossible.

I found a workaround, and hopes this works for you as well.

Uninstall everything, and start from the original CD that came with your card. Once you have it all installed, download the hotfix.

In windows go to device manager>"you video card">update driver. From here you have to do everything manually. Dont let windows search for your device, and chose the "have disk". the file that will get everything kickstarted is in the drivers folder of the hotfix file. Once windows starts doing its thing, there will be some files it wont be able to find. Certays .dll and .sys files will be in your windows\system32 folder. You will have to bounce back and forth from hotfix drivers folder/files and what is already in your windows folder.

End result, original catalyst control center with the 10.12 drivers, 3d and 2d drivers.

There is something either incomplete or wrong with the hotfix file. BSOD could be happening because of certain .sys and dll files that are not being installed correctly into windows.

Flash works, everything works with no BSOD. the only thing that I am unsure if it was upgraded is my 2d drivers. Here is what my software info says:

--almost forgot, make sure you extract the hotfix file since it is in zip format before you update your drivers.

just download an odler version of FLash, archived versions on their site, worked for me. 9.something vers

My HDD went bad, so i had to buy a new one. I never had the Flash problem again.
Everything is running good now. I still however get a VPU recover after having my screensaver on for a while.

Nick, that is because Flash 9x does not utilize the VPU. It claims it does, but in reality it does not.
