I get a blue screen with a stop code of 0X0000007B (0X80786B58, 0XC000000D, 0X00000000, 0X00000000) every time I start my computer. It comes on right after the splash screen. I know I had a virus but thought I had gotten rid of it. I can not get to safe mode and when I try to do a start up repair it says it can not be done. I go to the advanced section try to select an image to do a recovery but it says there is no image. I put in my OS disk and it will not read the disk (I did reset the boot order to boot from the CD as well). In the advanced section of the start up recovery it does not show there is an image on a disk either. I have run a memory test and HDD test and both returned normal. I also reset the BIOS. I ran chkdsk from the command prompt too.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks,

Rick

0x7B is an inaccessible boot device error. This is a common experience when your motherboard is set in BIOS to boot using AHCI or RAID and Windows does not have those drivers installed. IDE mode is usually the compatible mode in most BIOS's that requires no extra drivers in Windows. Check your BIOS for the SATA mode setting. Usually the choices are AHCI, RAID, IDE, or similar.

If you can boot using IDE mode, then I can tell you where to go in the registry to enable the use of AHCI once again.

Ugh! Ok, maybe I figured it out. When trying to get to the system information 3 or 4 times with everything just stopping when I'd try, the computer now no longer brings up the windows screen. It just goes to a black screen with a flashing cursor. This means the HDD is gone, right?

If you can't get into BIOS, that's a different porblem. The black screen with a flashing cursor can result from just a f***ed windows install considering you're having these issues after cleaning a virus.

Follow these guidelines to fix this error::

Note: Some of these steps may require you to access Windows via Safe Mode. If that's not possible then skip those steps.

Restart your computer if you haven't already done so. The STOP 0x0000007B blue screen error might be a fluke. Did you just install or make a change to a hard drive controller? If so, there's a good chance that the change you made caused the STOP 0x0000007B error.

Undo the change and test for the 0x7B blue screen error. Depending on what changes you made, some solutions might include:

Remove or reconfigure the newly installed hard drive controller.
Startup with Last Known Good Configuration to undo related registry and driver changes.
Use System Restore to undo recent changes.
Rollback hard drive controller device driver to version prior to your driver update.
Verify that the SCSI chain is correctly terminated, assuming you're using SCSI hard drives in your computer.

Incorrect SCSI termination has been known to cause STOP 0x0000007B errors.

Note: Most home computers don't utilize SCSI hard drives.

Verify that the hard drive is properly installed. An improperly installed hard drive could cause STOP 0x0000007B errors and other issues.

Verify that the hard drive is configured properly in BIOS. The STOP 0x0000007B error could occur if the hard drive settings in BIOS are incorrect.

Scan your computer for viruses. Certain viruses that infect the master boot record (MBR) or boot sector can cause STOP 0x0000007B errors.

Important: Make sure your virus scanning software is updated and configured to scan the MBR and boot sector.

Update the drivers for your hard drive controller. If the drivers to your hard drive controller are outdated,

incorrect, or corrupted then the STOP 0x0000007B error will likely occur.

Did all that I could. Of course, I couldn't get into BIOS. Prior to the black screen and cursor I did run the HDD and memory test in BIOS and it came back fine.
