Hi,

I have just recently built my own pc, and i keep getting blue screens every now and then. Could this be down to my power supply only being 500W? I did have to buy extra molex and splitters.

Regards

A generic (cheapo) 500w psu really only put's out 300-350w, so yes that could be your problem for sure, but you failed to mention what psu it is your talking about.

BSOD's are almost always memory settings or power supply.

It is a cheapo PSU only made for these pre built bundles that overclockers uk make. They don't even sell them off the shelf.

- Power Supply: OcUK Value 500W PSU

So it will be that then surelly?

I'll just have to buy a new one are they quite simple to fit? Never fitted one.

for 2 card this is more then enough even for 3 5850's

Thanks dude.. Do you think its my cheap ass power supply that give me the BSOD's ? they don't happen that often probably once a day if i use the computer.. I just want the one card.. so 650W will be fine but the 500W PSU will give me blue screens?.. are they easy to fit ?

Its just an Overclockers Value 500w PSu they dont actually sell them they just put them in these prebuilt barebones that just have the powersupply and mobo fitted.

yeah thats most likely it cant really find much on it but i'd bet my house its not worth being used as a door stop

on how big of a psu a good 450 watt psu will be enough for a 5850 the 620 is a great deal right now and 650 will run 2 5850's that 750 i posted is the best value performance 750 out right now

and changing a psu is easy its just plug out and plug in the cables will be marked and so will your motherboard so its just a case of follow the map plug in and double check it and its fine

Thanks alot dude you've been mega helpful.. might use this forum more often :).. just for your info i'm going to buy the 620w one you posted. Thanks again !!!!

Have you checked your memory settings first?

Manually check your voltage, speed and timings in bios. Most of the time "auto" does not set it correctly and can cause BSOD's and stop errors.

My guess is that psu does not have enough power for your system, but I would still check the memory settings.
