Question Buddies PC is artifacting ?

My buddy has a pre built PC with a 1060 in it he only plays destiny. He sent me two images. The first one is clearly artifacting but the second one the entire screen is black and white and void of color. I told him it’s the GPU overheating or failing. Could it be something else?

yes do check gpu temp
