Hey guys,

I wanted to replace my 8 year old seagate 160gb barracuda. As I am on a budget I wont be looking for ssd. I found that WD black 1tb offers good performance but costs almost twice of what other manufacturers offer for 1tb. I m from India and just to give you an example Rs3500 for seagate barracuda 7200rpm 1tb versus WD black 1tb for Rs 6300.

You can see that the cost is almost double. So does it justify its high cost. If the difference in performance is near about 15% or less then I wont go for WD.

Please help.
Thnx in advance.

Hey there, c2yCharlie.

About the WD Black drive - it is the high performance model from the WD drives. It's recommended for gaming purposes along with streaming/recording, video editing and generally for demanding software. It also has a dual processor and it comes with a 5-year limited warranty, so this might explain the price difference between different drive models. If you decide to go with a WD drive, @Petrossa has recommended that you check the WD Blue drive (the 7200RPM model) as a more suitable option fro your budget, which is a pretty good suggestions.
However, you should go for the drive that suit your needs and budget, no matter the brand.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

As I told you I m on a tight budget. All I need is best price to performance ratio. I dont care about the brand until it is something which I hv not heard of. If I can get say 90% performance of wd black with wd blue why would I go for it. BTW do you hv any recommendation?

Thanks 4 d description.
