Hello,

I would like recommendations for a budget Minecraft (modded [FTB]) build.

I have the case, 500gb hard drives, 400 watt power supply (2 sets).
I have to buy 2 sets (for both of my boys).

Just for reference, here are their current systems:

Current Computer 1
  • CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000
MB: ASUS M2N-E AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra
    MEM: OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB)
VID: Gigabyte GV-R667D3-1GI Radeon HD 6670

Current Computer 2
  • CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000
MB: ASUS M2N-E AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra
    MEM: Patriot Signature Line 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800
VID: Sapphire HD6450 PCI Express 1 GB DDR3

I was looking at this:
  • CPU: Intel G4620
    MB: MSI - B250M PRO-VD
    MEM: 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR4
VID: Possibly use above video card for the time being

It's about $200 or so.

Any suggestions?

Would the old video card be usable at all in the new system?

I would like to keep it at a little under $200, because I have to buy 2 sets. :pt1cable:

Solution
As long as the BIOS is updated on that H110 motherboard it should work fine. As far as using the old video cards you could however the iGPU (HD 630) does perform better then them. You could also avoid possible BIOS issues if you got a B250 motherboard such as this MSI.

Motherboard: MSI - B250M PRO-VD Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($41.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $41.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Solution
Well the G4620 is a good CPU, as well as the G4600 which both have Intel HD 630 integrated graphics, which believe it or not is faster than the HD 6670.

You'd want to make sure the motherboard is compatible with Kaby Lake; H110 requires the latest BIOS update, without it you cannot use a Kaby Lake CPU in an H110 board, you can't even install the BIOS update without a Skylake CPU.

So to avoid that headache I'd recommend getting a B250 motherboard instead to ensure compatibility out of the box.

I'm not sure where you live so I don't know which parts are cheapest, but you have a good start for a budget build.

Pentium G4600 or G4620
2x4GB DDR4 2400
