Hey

I want to build a computer on a budget of £300. Would use it for work, web surfing, music software, watching TV/films. I think the AMD FX 6300 is a good processor. Would need definitely 8gb of RAM. Would really appreciate if someone could come up with a good components list!

Thanks a lot!

So this is totally a non-gaming PC ?
Looking at you might want to watch at good quality for videos a graphic card is must but which aint coming your budget So..
i chose a AMD APU (CPU) named : A10-7850k (codename Trinity) that have inbuilt GPU. This build is kinda obvious one and i am a bit doubtful for the PSU.

CPU: AMD A10-7850K 3.7GHz Quad-Core Processor (£119.99 @ Aria PC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-HD3 Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard (£44.24 @ Amazon UK)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory (£57.32 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£35.99 @ Aria PC)
Case: Cooler Master N200 MicroATX Mid Tower Case (£32.99 @ Novatech)
Power Supply: XFX 450W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (£20.00 @ Maplin Electronics)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer (£11.69 @ CCL Computers)
Total: £322.22

To mention: That CPU is a very powerfull one for giving good performance for the system and you do get good in anything related to Video processing or Graphic processing as you said TV/Films.
It also ready you up for entry level gaming too (just in case you want to .. )

8GB is unnecessary for the uses you've described. You could even (barely) get away with 2GB, but some budget 4GB will serve your purposes perfectly fine and save you a few quids for other components.

Well since it aint gaming and is actually just regular use PC nothing extreme is needed and yea 4GB is absolutely perfect for budget but if you need not to spend on other component then get it :p (well not really)

My computer appears to be struggling on 4gb of ram at the moment! Could be something else though, not sure!

8gbs isn't that expensive of an upgrade from the 4gb as long as you haven't bought it yet:

Shouldn't he get 2x4GB or 2x2GB RAM as dual channel memory is better though?

the performance difference he'll see between dual and single channel RAM will be close to nil

i would +1 this build because an i3 is a good choice for regular PC. However if you want some gaming AMD APU's are better always :p

ANd yes 2x4 GB of ram is better option always.
