I was thinking of buying the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Rgb Black Edition but i would like to hear other opinions and recommendations first. My case is Corsair Crystal Series 460x rgb, don't know if it would fit. If i wanted to do a bit of oc then this cooler will be enough? If not oc, then better leave the stock cooler?
Honestly, just use the Wraith Stealth that came with it. You won't see any meaningful temperature improvements from other coolers. Hell, I'm running an R7-5800X3D and I'm just using a Wraith Prism. I got the thing for free because my dad got it with his R9-3900X. He absolutely
hates RGB (he's a boomer) and was happy to trade it to me for my unused non-RGB Wraith Spire that came with my R5-3600X. Since I already had a Wraith Spire RGB from my R7-1700, I didn't bother using the non-RGB Wraith Spire. He's happy with it and I love the look of the Prism.
If you're not overclocking, don't waste your money on an aftermarket cooler. I swear, noob gamers waste more money on aftermarket CPU coolers (especially AIOs) than they do on RGB RAM. To me, spending an extra $30 on an aftermarket cooler is better spent on getting a CPU that's $30 more expensive than the one I'm looking at.
Stock coolers are also incredibly reliable. I have an AM2+ Cooler that came with my Phenom II X4 940 back in 2008. I call it the "Wraith before it was called Wraith" and that thing is an absolute beast that still works to this day (original fan and everything):
That thing cooled my Phenom II X4 940 and my FX-8350. I used it on my FX-8350 because the AM3 cooler was inferior and sounded like a jet engine. It still worked, it was just loud.
I tried using a Cooler Master Hyper 212 and I tried a Zalman Asetek-based AIO but the difference in temperature on my FX-8350 was less that 10°C, 8.5°C
at most. Unless you want something that lights up, just stick with the Wraith Stealth. It's always better to spend no money when you can because something will always come along that you
must spend money on.
