Budget CPU and Motherboard upgrade

I want to upgrade my CPU to an i5. Should I be getting a new motherboard to support an i5? If so what should I get? Considering that I'm not trying to break my bank.

If that motherboard is still working, then better invest that extra money for the motherboard, towards an i7.

I would say look on Ebay etc for a used i7-3770 or for 4 cores 8 threads or drop down to a 570 or 3470 for 4 cores and 4 threads

First figure out your actual motherboard model. It should support an E3 1230v2, all the way up to a 1290v2, given the chipset, but be sure. Also get a better quality power supply. Those old CX units are not very good.

Your current CPU is a 3.3ghz part. So look for a 3.3ghz or better i5 or i7. Something like an i5 3550 or 3570 or i7 equivalent. That way in dual core friendly games you'll get at least the same performance as now and in quad core demanding games you'll get better performance.
