Purchase date: 3 weeks from now
Budget range: As little as possible, after rebates
System Usage from Most to Least Important: FL Studio, REAPER, Audacity, WinAmp, Chrome
Are you buying a monitor: Yes, dual monitor
Parts to Upgrade: New Machine
Do you need to buy OS: No, have Windows 7 or 8 license through school
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, any other that won't rip me off
Location: Littleton, CO
Parts Preferences: None.
Overclocking: No.
SLI or Crossfire: No.
Your Monitor Resolution: Some happy medium of big and cheap. I like widescreen. Anything for a desktop will probably kick my laptop's butt though.
Additional Comments: Will eventually be supporting several USB MIDI controllers. Audio is important but headphones are used primarily. If you think it would be worth while to get a hefty sound card I would consider it.
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I currently have a 17.5" laptop that I happen to use for music production. It sucks, quite frankly. I need more screen space because music software takes up a lot of real estate, and faster wouldn't hurt. When many plugins/synths are running my laptop gets a little laggy. It runs sufficiently though, so at a minimum it should match this:
2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M (2.30GHz, 3MB Cache)
4GB DDR3
