I am also looking through the budget builds in the above stickied post, but was curious if anyone could come up with something specifically from the bestbuy website that would perform better than the linked build and for under 500$ from bestbuy.

Saw at least one build in the stickies that fits into the budget, I need to check the pricing from bestbuy and make sure they carry all those items though. Main reason for purchasing through there is because of some gift cards and offers i have available through them that would make a 500$ purchase more affordable to my own pocket than the $385 newegg build if it outperforms it.

If gaming is your priority, you don't need six core processor. Games hardly utilize 4 core at most:

CPU: $190- i5-2400 (Quad Core. Gives excellent performance. Beats top amd processors )

Motherboard : $60- Asrock H61M-VS ( Cheap, but at the cost of USB 3.0)

Case : $30- Xigmatak Asguard (Cheap and decent)

Power Supply: $45- Antec Earthwatts 430D (Good for our needs)

HDD : $55- Samsung Spinpoint 1TB (cheap and fast)

RAM: $35- Gskill (2X 2GB) 1333MHz (No need of faster memory)

Graphic Card : $175- Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 (Great for gaming)

Optical Drive : $19- LG

Total : 609 USD

I found newegg deals were cheaper as compared to bestbuy. for example :
i5-2400 cost $200 on bestbuy wheras $190 on newegg

AMD processor is not recommended because of not good performance in WOW(link 1 and link 2)

Radeon 6870 is a good card and will allow smooth gameplay in WOW( review)

IF this build goes overbudget, here are the options :
1. Drop the HDD to Seagate Barracuda 500GB. Save $15.
2. Drop to i3-2100 for $125. Save $65.
3. Drop the card to HIS Radeon 6850 or GTX 460. Save $15.

Try upgrading the case if you don't like this one.

Excellent suggestions, thank you! I will tale a look and see what I can get that full build to cost after my gift cards and rebates. Do you see your build as outperforming the one Newegg was offering? It seems like the newegg offer would require a decent gfx card since I doubt the built in would sustain SC2 or WoW on full graphics.

I've been looking at the BestBuy website and it seems that a lot of parts are overpriced and the parts you can get on Newegg are better and cheaper. What is the maximum amount you are willing to put into this build?

If the parts are from best buy my budget is 500-600, if it's Newegg then I'm down to under 400. If a decent build isn't possible through best buy then I will just have toget creative I guess, haha.

You are better of going with the Newegg deals because BestBuy is just not worth it. Also it's not very upgradeable with the build I gave you and you can get a way better system for that amount.

Thanks a ton! The build doesn't have to be amazing, just a useable gaming desktop for a few years. I basically get 10% off a purchase and I have some giftcards that should be about $100, so that's why I wanted as much from Best buy as possible.

What is your current video card that you use to play WoW and what screen resolution do you have?

It's a replacement for my girlfriend who is playing in a laptop right now, I'm not at home so I'm not sure of the specs, my desktop I built off of suggestions from here and I believe it's a radeon 5850 hd. Anything similar or even a bit less is fine. We will get a monitor separately based on the level of gfx card

Well the problem with that deal is that is lacks a video card.. it has onboard graphics which is not that good at all. It's only 4250 Radeon HD I believe and the power supply could be better because most PSU that are included with the case don't last very long. This build I made might be over budget, but it is good for the price.

That is a little bit cheaper than z_4's build, but it's a bit hard to get cheaper for the performance that you want.

with that budget why not just go for a phenom 955, with an AM3+ board? will save you some cash, will leave space for future upgrades, and will still be a great performance build.

WoW isnt a very demanding game, that system would play WoW on max settings quite easily, i would reccommend a GTS450 instead, since WoW tends to perform better on Nvidia cards.
