The RAM doesn't have quite as high a NewEgg customer rating as you'd like to see.
Compare this set of Wintec AMPX 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 $26 93% 4&5 'Egg' rating vs 86% for the Crucial 4GB kit.

As you can see in the system builder marathon , the AMD phenom system beat the i3 everywhere except gaming , where it was very close when overclocked .

Prices have changed and a phenom 955 , on an AM3+ motherboard would probably beat the i3 everywhere .
The am3+ board adds a bit to the price , but it gives you expansion options and the ability to update in the future .
The h61 is a dead end IMO

But going the i3 route, gives you Ivy Bridge upgrade ability next year. AMD will offer nothing even close with bulldozer, in fact early estimates say BD won't even beat Sandy Bridge.

As far as gaming, the i3 will take even a X4 970, but if your overclocking, they are going to be close. But it only uses half the wattage.

If you do decide to go the i3 route, let me know I can recommend a better board than the one in the system builder marathon that has usb3 and sata6.
