I recently decided to build a computer, first time, and wanted to base it on a 800 before rebate budget. I preferably want to use the 2500k or 3570k. This will be for gaming, recording. I have scavanged a screen, keyboard, mouse and hard drive from my old computer.

I live in the states and need the OS too. 800 before rebates. I want this to be decent right now, but so that in the future i don't need to buy a better mobo or ram for upgrades and ocing. I will be ocing to about 4.6ghz. I'll be playing bf3, crysis 3, borderlands, minecraft black ops.

I don't mind playing at high with 40 fps. You can go easy on the gpu because I will upgrade in the near future.

You say you want to upgrade in the future but the future intel processors will require a new mobo. With intel cpus, you'll need a new motherboard for upgrading. In my opinion, AMD would be better for you since it has great overclocking potential and you won't need a new motherboard for upgrading the cpu in the future.

Yes, it won't, but it will do, i don't think he'll be able to overclock the i5-3570k at 4.6 ghz with an hyper 212 evo, the i5-3570k runs hot, it needs a better cooler, for a 800$ budget without rebates, with os, i don't think it's possible, without sacrificing a lot on the gpu, which is the primary thing for gaming.


You need a cooler, good luck overclocking the cpu with the stock cooler, a 7850 is way unbalanced for a 800$ build.

Djangoringo's build is good for decent overclocking. Since you said you don't need a HDD, take that out and put in a Hyper 212 EVO and you'll be able to do some decent OC once you build it.

Even if the 2500k runs cooler, overclocking with a stock cooler will barely get you anywhere.

Yes, but you won't get it at 4.4-4.5 ghz with the stock cooler, get the i5 ivybridge and a better card like the 7870 XT, the 7850 isn't that good, it's totally unbalanced.
Worth mention, the i5 ivybridge cpu supports pcie 3.0, so if one day the cards start taking advantage of the pcie 3.0 bandwidth, it's better going with the i5 ivybridge cpus.
Also make sure that your previous hdd is a sata one, not ide, if not you won't be able to use it.
