Hi all,

My computer is getting a little aged, but I want to upgrade a few components to try and squeeze a few more years out of it. I've already bought a few EVO ssd's to throw in, but now I'm looking at a new GPU, because when GTA V is released for PC, I'm really keen to play it on there.

These are my current specs:
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
Intel i7-950 (mildly overclocked @ 3.20 GHz on stock cooler)
Corsair XMS3 8GB 1600Mhz (want to bump this up to 16)
Gigabyte GTX 570
Thermaltake ToughPower XT 675W

I don't really want to be spending too much on a new GPU, but what would anybody recommend that would be a decent upgrade to the 570, and would be able to play gta v comfortably?

Thanks heaps in advance.
:)

Be Wary that Vram can come in handy in Higher settings and more resolution .

Also Playing a game is different than actually having a good experience with the game , I suspect GTA V like most other open world games will be a CPU intensive game that requires a good cpu and a handful amount of RAM , the 570 should handle the game at medium settings 1080p no problems .

VRAM is a whole different story and taking it into consideration requires its own unique situations
also, finding a low budget upgrade that will show noticable better performance will eb a hard thing. when you say budget I think about the 750 and 750 ti (or r9 265). but well, lets say the gtx 570 still is quite a good card. so if you want noticable difference, you should go for a gtx 770 or r9 280(x)

Yeah, I've been really happy with the CPU despite its age, it goes well! I would say not too much more than AU $400. Preferably less though.

Really? Maybe I need to upgrade my drivers or something but whenever I play Gta 4 on it, it freezes and is unplayable!

Thanks heaps for the advice :) Would I still be able to play gta v on my current card? the only thing that worries me is only 1.25gb of ram...

Vram is a whole different story , its all about bandwidth and how many pixels your graphics card can handle and show at a time , just like a regular ram but in a virtual , graphic bound scenario . Basically its needed for higher resolution and you won't really tell much difference.

Well my monitor is 1920x1080 so I'm not running anything too extensive, this is great! It sounds like my 570 will live on for a few years yet, I might instead spend some money on a closed-loop water cooler for the old i7 to overclock :)

Thanks so much for your help, I think I will keep my 570 after all!
