As the title suggests I was curious to see If I can build/buy/upgrade a PC for $1,500? If not I am willing to go up to $1,900 if needed. I am open to suggestions/feedback.... This would be a mix of New/Used Parts

Reason to build this PC, Is to have a "Backup" PC for when my main PC goes down, due to a Virus, GPU Failure, Mobo Dies, etc, And to learn how Video Games are made/to see what goes on behind the scenes that you can't see and how to make them run/optimize them better... Plus it's nice to have an extra PC for when I need access to one, plus who uses a 4 Core 8 Thread CPU anyways?? Aren't they obsolete?

CPU: i9 10900k 10 Core 20 Thread

Motherboard: Z590 - ASUS ROG Strix Z590-E Gaming OR MSI Z590-A Pro

RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz 2x16 Maybe 4x16 (If budget allows)

GPU: RTX 3080 (10GB) Either EVGA XC3 (Black) or EVGA RTX 3080 (10GB) FTW3 Ultra OR RTX 3080 MSI Gaming X Trio (10GB)

Storage: 1TB M.2 SSD (Boot/OS) 2TB 2.5' SSD x2 (For Games, Music, Mods, other Junk)

PSU: Corsair RMx 850W PSU

Case: NZXT H7 Flow (Black/White)

CPU Cooler: IDK, stuck between AIO vs Air Cooler, can't decide. I thought about an NZXT X63 Kraken aswell again just, not sure

(Yes I this is going to be a backup to my 12700k + 12GB RTX 3080 Ti PC build) I wanted some opinions/feedback

Again I am curious to see what you think and or if you think something needs to be changed/swapped
Thanks,
-N1nja

That build makes zero sense. Why would anyone spend $350 on a 10 gen cpu that gets beat like a rented mule by a 12 gen cpu that goes for less money. And 4x16GB of RAM? You want two sticks of RAM for an Intel build, not four.

Would this be a "good" PC build? + Upgrades?? I dropped the whole Z590 on 10th gen CPUs....

Keep in mind I already plan to build an i7 12700k + EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming (12GB) PC Before this PC Build

PC Specs:
i9 10900k
Z490 A Pro (MSI Motherboard)
64GB DDR4 3200 MHz?
2TB M.2 SSD
240 Millimeter AIO Cooler (Corsair)
RTX 4090 [Zotac Trinity OC]
1200W PSU (Downgrading to 1000W PSU, Preferably Corsair RMx PSUs)
Corsair 5000X Case

Upgrades:
NEW- RAM: (Plan to swap that out to 32GB DDR4 of same speed) (maybe looking into a 2x16 kit.. I was tempting to get a 4x8 DDR4 kit)
NEW/USED- Storage: Add a 1TB M.2 SSD (OS) and x2 4TB 2.5' SSDs (Junk Drive)
USED- GPU: Downgrade to an RTX 3090 (either an EVGA FTW3 Ultra or MSI Suprim X) [If I can find any]
NEW- PSU: Downgrade to a 1000W PSU... 1200 Watts on a 3090? little overkill

I found this deal on Offerup, btw Is it still viable for another 5 or 7 years? Or nah? Planning to buy the PC w/o the GPU RTX 4090s are just wayyy to overkill for me.... RTX 3000 (3090, 3080 ,3070) Plus the whole melting RTX 4090 PSU cable thing is real dumb, also who would go out of their way to buy a GPU that costs half of your budget?

For all coding needs you are far better off with an AMD based system

far superior multicore performance wins the day

I would get R9 5900x myself. Actually, if I were doing it for coding, I would get a thread ripper because I couldn’t care less about games.

I forgot to say that I already planned to build an i7 12700k + EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming (12GB) PC Before this PC Build... I just wanted to know If a 10900k + RTX 3090 is a viable combo? For another 5-7 years?

Sure, but you could add two years to that by getting a 12700F. Or holding out for when something like the 13700F launches.

Or just not bothering and spending the total on a 13900K and RTX 4090?
I am not huge on CPUs that don't have any integrated graphics onboard aka the KF/F versions of most CPUs + I really don't want to splurge on any new parts I'd rather get something that's 2-3 years old but still put up decent FPS...

Plus the RTX 4000 GPUs were/are still wayyy to expensive and came at a bad time when even the RTX 3000 GPUs were unobtainable.... Plus the whole melting power cables of the RTX 4090s made me NOT want an RTX 4090/RTX 4080, I'd rather get a used/like new RTX 3090

The i9-10900K retails for $340 USD and gets beat like a rented mule by modern $200 cpu's. It's a horrible buy.

Would have to be an a pretty extreme discount to make sense, motherboards should be somewhat cheaper. Basically how I ended up with a 10900F after the 11th gen launch. A non-overclockable 10850K without graphics. At the time I want to say it was cheaper than an 11700K which it competed directly with, and about $100 cheaper than the 10900k or 10850K.

Once 12th gen launched, basically no reason to buy 10th or 11th gen. Having 10 cores is cool, but what really kept it competitive was the extra cache those cores afforded vs the 11th gen chips. And the 11900K was silly vs the 11700K. 12700K vs the 12900K actually a difference, but a 13th gen, even more cache. 13700 will basically be a 12900, and only if you really need multithreading would the 13900 make sense. Then you can start edging toward the 7950X.

This looks pretty good to me and you should be able to hit your budget. I'm not sure it is the best balance I would probably drop the GPU to a 3070 to get a 12600k and mobo which will give you the chance to upgrade to raptor lake in the future to keep it going.

I gave up trying to run 10th gen cpus on Z590 Mobos since you give up one of the M.2 SSD slots... Plus I found a better listing/combo that works better...

Plus I may swap out the 10900k to a 12900k sometime later down the line.... Just not right now

I hate to repeat myself, but I wanted some opinions on this "Used" PC". Either way this PC will get the planned upgrades, also I really am not looking to get the latest/greatest PC hardware.... Just looking for something that can output decent FPS on a 2560x1440p monitor (G-Sync). Also I dropped the whole Z590 on 10th gen CPUs, you give up an M.2 Slot which I kinda stinks, but oh well... Why upgrade when the older hardware still works just fine... Sure it won't give you that 300+ FPS, but why kick it to the curb when the new product comes around the block?

Keep in mind that this will be a Backup PC since I would have already built an i7 12700k + EVGA RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming (12GB) PC Before I tackle this "Project/Build"... Again just looking for advice/opinions

PC Specs, (Before Upgrades)

i9 10900k
Z490 A Pro (MSI Motherboard)
64GB DDR4 3200 MHz or was it 3600MHz?
2TB M.2 SSD
240 Millimeter AIO Cooler (Corsair)
RTX 4090 [Zotac Trinity OC]
1200W PSU (Corsair)
Corsair 5000X Case

Upgrades:
NEW- RAM: (Plan to swap that out to 32GB DDR4 of same speed, 2x16 kit, also was tempted to get a 4x8 DDR4 kit)
NEW/USED- Storage: Add a 1TB M.2 SSD (OS) and x2 4TB 2.5' SSDs (Junk Drive)
USED/NEW- GPU: Downgrade to an RTX 3090 Ti (either an EVGA FTW3 Ultra or MSI Suprim X) [If I can find any]
NEW- PSU: Downgrade to a 1000W PSU... 1200 Watts on a 3090 Ti? Little overkill?

This is an Offerup "special" But can it still be still viable for another 5 or 7 years? Or nah? Planning to buy the PC w/o the GPU RTX 4090s are just wayyy to overkill for me.... RTX 3000 are much better of a GPU to me (3090, 3080 ,3070). Since with all the buzz surrounding the whole melting RTX 4090 PSU cable thing is real dumb, also who would go out of their way to buy a GPU that costs half of your budget?

Future Upgrades:
Upgrade from 10900k to 12900k + SSDs and Memory (DDR4 , btw DDR5 is too expensive for my pockets)

I knew that... That was my goal in the end, But eventually I'll just build a "New" i9 12900k + RTX 3080 Ti Mini ITX PC build . But that will be in the future when I have more stable income
