Hello!

I'm thinking about building a new PC, this is what I'm thinking about so far.

Gigabyte LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gbps USB 3.0 Micro ATX DDR3 1600 Intel Motherboards GA-B85M-D3H

MSI Computer Corp. Computer Video Graphics Cards N750TI-2GD5/OC

Intel Core I3-4160 Processor 3.60 GHz, 2-Core LGA1150 Socket, Hyper-Threading (BX80646I34160)

Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3 1600 MHz PC3 12800 240-Pin DDR3 Dual Channel Memory Kit

EVGA 600 B1, 80+ BRONZE 600W, Power Supply 100-B1-0600-KR

+ Some sort of cheap DVD reader

Does this look like a good setup for the price or should I change a part for something better, maybe change all of them or straight up buy a done machine?

This is pretty much maxing out my budget, I can't go much higher, maybe £50 give or take.

I have very little experience with choosing hardware and I would be really grateful if someone with some experience could share some of their wisdom.

I know it's a super small budget, but assuming you could only add £50 max to this price list, does this seem like a good setup or should I change parts or buy a machine instead?

Thanks in advance

Charles

I would prefer to be around £400 but £520 is my absolute high point since that is literally all I have in my bank account. I would be willing to go there if it made a major difference
(I already have a windows key)

I think you can squeeze a little on your budget and buy a 7th gen mobo + g4560 then upgrade later to a more decent i5 or i7 7th gen. But if you are not planning on upgrading, go with your build.

You think it's a good build for the price that doesn't need improvement if I can't go up much more in price? Because if that is the case then I just got really lucky

Should outperform yours in every way by a decent margin and basically the same price (I think)

Im not sure there bud, Im just endorsing the 7th gen because of the hyperthreading on their pentium processors. And that is more cheaper than the i3 4160 processor, so I suggest to look at 7th gen processors and better stay away from 4th gen.

Thanks so much for this, you have helped me a lot. Do you think this build will outperform a £480.50 pre-built PC from Amazon?

Well, thank you so incredibly much for this information, it truly is invaluable to me.

I would really want to get going on this £480.50 build, I'll have to check my budget and hopefully, I will be able to build it (and then live on ramen for a month hehe). Just in case I'll need to stick to the £400, is there any way to downgrade that build -£80 and impact the performance as little as possible?

Get 2400 ddr4 for kaby lake if it is the same price or cheaper than 2133. Kaby lake gets 2400 support officially. The g4560 is 3.5 ghz and 2 core 4 thread thanks to hyperthreading, only 100 MHz slower than the 4th gen I3 but has the generational improvements.

Maybe look for a 1050 vanilla for $105 if you have to cut the budget. Better than a 460 but not as good as a 470

So shouldn't be a major difference for casual use?
