Budget PC just want to build vs buy Dell (1400)

Budget Range: 1400 Before Rebates


System Usage from Most to Least Important: Watching video from our new camcorder, browsing and editing photos in picasa, youtube, flash games for kids, excel


Parts Not Required: Monitor, keyboard, mouse, storage hard drives (need SSD for boot), cd-rom


Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg works for me


Country of Origin: Us


Parts Preferences: Dont care really if AMD will do what I need then great


Overclocking: No


SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050


Additional Comments: RAID for raid 1 data, SSD drive to boot only

Just want it to work and not have to work at it to install say an SSD drive or have memory compatibility issues because the parts are cheap

do you already have all the components? im assuming you made a mistake and actually DO need all the parts you listed under parts not required?

umm, you listed all the parts for a PC under "parts NOT required".

Anyways, $1400 is a lot for a basic web browsing PC if you don't have to buy monitor(s). If all you want to do is what you listed you could get by on integrated graphics with something like a A4-3400.

Do you want to edit HD video from your new camcorder? It makes a big difference on suggestions.

Oops yea I fixed the post sorry for the confusion. No editing just watch it. I dont really have to spend the 1400 its just what the Dell cost and the wife has approved

Heck you can build a pc for about 400-500, even a beast gaming rig for 500

if your not going to be gaming you can take out the graphics card and put in a 5670 or something

CPU: AMD A4-2400 - $80
Motherboard: ASUS F1A75-M FM1 AMD A75 - $100 - lots of features like USB3.0, SATA6G, and RAID 1 support.

PSU: Corsair CX430 - $25 after rebates - more than powerful enough, reliable, and cheap
RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 - $39 after rebate
Case: COOLER MASTER Elite 341 - $55 - really just buy whatever you think looks nice that can hold a microATX motherboard.
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB - $110 - reliable and big enough

OS: Win 7 OEM Home Premium - $100

Total - $489 after rebate

I don't think I missed anything since you said you have the storage drives and a cd-rom (assuming you meant DVD but whatever those cost $20).

As a note, if you want more processing power, you can upgrade to a A6 or A8, but I don't think you need it. My HTPC is running on a 2.7GHz Athlon II X2 and I can do everything you listed.
