My use is going to be gaming and light cad work and 3d modellinjg
Should I get an i3-8100 and 1060 6gb
Or i5-8400 and 1060 3gb
Within my budget I can't get a ssd
So should I go for i3 + 1060 3gb + SSD?

though the i3 is very close in performance to the i5, future games and ofc your cad modeling will benifit greatly from having more threads/cores.

your use will dictate which one to get. if you cad a lot, get i5. if you want your pc to have a little future proofing with games, get the i5
if you just want a cheap gaming system with rare cad crunching, get i3.

ofc an ssd will greatly decrease loading times. an i3 with ssd will 'feel' much more responsive than an i5 with hdd. you can always add an ssd at a later date (hello xmas prezzie).
