I've been trying to put together a rig that offers good performance at a decent price and this is what I've come up with. Let me know any changes/recommendations or if there is anyplace I can save money without a significant performance decrease. I'm still debating between the Phenom II X4 or an Intel Core 2 Duo (maybe the E8500) as well, so thoughts on that are also appreciated. Here we go with the build:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz - 229.00 (Overkill maybe?)

Motherboard: ASUS M3A78-T AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX - 138.99

PSU: PC Power & Cooling S75CF 750W - 99.99

Graphics: SAPPHIRE 100270SR Radeon HD 4850 X2 2GB - 289.99 (Concerned this may be overkill considering I'll be gaming at 1680x1050)

Memory: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 - 54.99

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB - 79.99

Total: 892.95

Thanks and take care!

Intel is much bettwer today:

Case: Antec NSK4480B w/EA380W PSU $80
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R $105AR
CPU: E8500 $188
HSF: Xigmatech HDT-S1283 $37
RAM: G-Skill Pi Black 2x2GB DDR2 800 $55
GPU: MSI HD4850 $125AR
HDD: WD Caviar Black 640GB $70
DVD: Pioneer 216DBK $27
OS: Vista 64 HP $100

Total $787

Disagree you getting a Q9550 with that Phenom 2 chip and your original config has a quad + better GPU
