Curentlly i have:
ASRock 970 Pro3 R2.0
AMD FX 8150
2x4GB 1600Mhz Geil Memory
Nvidia 740 2GB
I'm interested in buying a 1070 Ti but im wondering if it would be a good idea
Also looking forward to upgrading to 2x8GB ram but having trouble finding compattible and relativly cheap
No concern for future upgrades just trying to keep it as cheap as possible and keep it capable of handling games like Battlefront 2 (on decent settings)

Quick search shows a Reddit thread. One of the comments told the op basically if they had an fx 8350 to get the 1070ti but expect to upgrade soon.

The other question is what power supply are you using?

To be honest your 8150 is very very long in the tooth. I remember getting the 8120 when they came out and I think that was 2011 or so. If an 8350 would bottleneck a 1070ti an 8150 certainly would.

What kind of budget do you have and where are you located? If you prefer amd, I’d consider looking at socket am4. Trust me even the lowest ryzen 1000 series cpu will be a good upgrade. I’d recommend however pick up a decent board and a ryzen 5000 series cpu. Although on a budget, a solid upgrade would be a used ryzen 5 3600, or ryzen 5 5500 or 5600 or higher. You may consider the 5600g or 5700g as I’d guess their built in gpu might be about as powerful or slightly more so than your 740. That should allow the pc to run until you get a better gpu. Which I’d advise against the 1070ti anyway, good gpu but they are about 5 years old now, so you don’t know how those were treated. For similar performance look at the gtx 1660 ti or 1660 super. But to be honest in my opinion the best gpu for money is the amd rx 6600 which can be found for about 200 dollars US used on eBay sometimes, and performance should be closer to a gtx 1080.

For example you could get a board like this in the USA for about 70.

A 5600g can be found used around 140 to 150

A ram kit for 16gb ddr4 3200 expect about 50-60 dollars.

It appears the fx 8150 sells for 30 dollars or so, which would offset a little cost. If you wanted to, you could even look at b450 boards, but those may require a bios update for some of the newer cpus to work. However most of the boards have updated to allow for the ryzen 5000 cpus. For example I’m using a 5900x on a 3 or 4 year old b350 board.

So my suggestion would be higher turn down the gpu selection a little, or look at a rebuild which you are really close to anyway.

Unfortunately your FX 8150 will be at it's limit with games like Battlefront 2, you won't get the most out of a 1070 Ti. Can I ask how much you intended to spend on the 1070 Ti and is there any flexibility in your budget?

I can say in regards to bottlenecks, I remember experiencing a pretty rough one when I was younger. It was back in the days of socket AM2 as AM2+ came in. I had an old Athlon x2 5200+(I think), and got a GTS 450. So way back in the day. Was trying to play Battlefield Bad Company. Anyway, the game would stutter very badly no matter what you did. Fortunately at the time my board allowed me to upgrade to an Athlon x4 which resolved it a while. But it is possible that the op will experience lots of stutters no matter what tweaks you make so just be prepared for that kind of situation as well.
