I know I know, you probably saw alot of people come here and talk how they are planning to buy 4$ pump, 3$ block and 9$ radiator etc..

I'm building a PC for my 'soon to be wife' and I bought 8350 and GB 990FXA-UD3 rev.4 for 40$ from a friend.
Anyway, I'm not willing to spend 300$ for a custom loop because im under budget and i still have to buy memory, case, gpu and psu.
But going trough some kits for watercooling i saw pretty good offers on ebay.
360 rad - 39$
Pump and res - 32$
CPU block - 15$
XSPC tubing - 10$
Mayhems X1 premixed coolant - 10$

Now when I was looking for parts for watercooling kit, i avoided cheap products and instead i chose few that cost a lil bit more.
Here are the links of those parts, tell me what you think about this.

Check out the pink build pics. Yes wc looks awesome if done right, but can and does take some maintenance. More so than a simple dusting every few months. If she ever has to do it herself, you'll be in the doghouse for sure. Maintenance free, like an aio or aircooler is a better recipe for good looks, good performance and a woman who is just happy the pc works when she needs it to.

There's also 85 other pages of ideas in that gallery, maybe of some use in decisions of cases vrs looks and performance
personally the one thing i wont cheap out on is the pump--would rather have a second hand D5 than a new cheap pump

if its not a D5 variant then i wont touch it

even with the D5 i have a second pump in the loop so if one pump fails the loop stills runs giving you time before you have to sort it out

would not use an aluminium radiator either personally--brass/copper instead of that aluminium one--used if its cheaper instead of a new aluminium one would be my choice

if you are only cooling the cpu you might be better just looking at an AIO

Leave the coolant, you can do much better with distilled water and a kill coil. [strike]You will need to pass on the links to all those parts since the thickness of your rad will dictate how well it'll cool and ofc the interior construction(and material used).[/strike] That radiator is made of aluminium while the block is milled from copper, you're going to kill your loop due to galvanic corrosion and in turn ruin your investment. You forgot the cost of fittings as well.

Watercooling apart from being a hobby is supposed to be a worth while investment. In fact if you're trying to skimp on the components(and their quality) you might need to consider the option of air cooling since you'd be able to accomplish that for far less resources and headache.

You can get by with Be Quiet!'s range of tower coolers or a Cryorig H5 Ultimate. If you're yet interested in watercooling, you're going to have to read through the watercooling sticky(linked in my sig space).

posted at same time as lutfij did

but both of us say no to aluminium radiator

reason being you dont mix different metals--even with distilled/purified/de-ionised water if its not totally 100% pure it will act as an electrolyte and as said

may cause galvanic/bi-metallic corrosion

it takes a lot to make water 100% pure by the way--including but not limited to--filtering--reverse osmosis and probably a few other steps as well

I want to watercool it because it looks stunning, and with pink build it will look awesome for a girl. 😀

So as i see, you are all worried about aluminium radiator, nothing else. Yeah i understand its not good to mix metals and I'm willing to go for copper one instead, Ill pay more but atleast ill be sure.

Tbh i expected all you to tell me to avoid this because of high risk of poitential leaks and failures of certain parts, but it looks like thats not the case, just dont mix metals 😀

mcnumpty23,
Just 2 seconds apart 😉

If you want a watercooling loop in your system then IMHO, you will need to spend for it. In this regard, you get exactly what you pay for and a kit would be your best option with at least 360mm of radiator space. However just because you want a watercooling loop doesn't end the story there. After purchase, you'll be setting up, filling and priming the loop and long after it's in service, you're going to need to perform maintenance on it which is why we recommend you don't get dodgy parts for your system/loop.

I also forgot to include, you need to educate yourself on the matter via the sticky.

to be honest i think you would be better off getting something like a swiftech h240 x2

probably around $150 though i am not in the usa so thats a rough guess

its basically high quality parts--ie pump, radiator, reservoir, cpu block etc all put into an AIO

but much better quality than corsair etc AIO

its also expandable if in the future you want to do more with it

can still add pink dye to the coolant if you want pink themed it has built in leds as well though probably do red but not pink

Thats a cheap Chinese pump, I doubt it will last long.

Also, dont mix metals, you are mixing a copper water block with an Aluminium, radiator, these 2 metals together cause a reaction in the water, and before you know it, you'll have tubes bursting and swelling up, water block seals degrading very quickly, and if any of those burst whilst your computer is on, bye bye computer, Copper and Nickle is ok together, or everything Aluminium.

I have Kraken X61 in my PC and yeah, its amazing. I was thinking about AIO for her PC too but that kinda kill it because i wanted something ''special'.
But yesterday i was thinking about good looking 360 AIO, Deepcool Captain. I was considering it before i bought my kraken but now Im considering it for her PC.
Yeah, its not pink, but mayde she'd like red too, Ill have to ask her. 😀

Swiftech is amazing, but its too expensive anywhere near me, almost double the price of the one you linked(150$).

Solution
ouch double the price is painful

but to be honest you could just get a corsair etc

and use rgb fans or even a cheap 12v rgb 5050 led strip from ebay to give the pink effect

here in the uk a 12v 5050 rgb led strip is only £5 or so on ebay

and can easily be wired onto a molex to get its power done a few of those and can actually get a very good pink out of them

thanks for that link have never really looked through the gallery before

Heh, this is Tom's Hardware. It's a forum pretty much dedicated to the DIY pc. That in unto itself guarantees a multitude of ideas and opinions from the various world wide members. So yeah, that gallery is great for things and ideas ppl don't usually consider for a pc, there's even a couple of desks in there.

i probably never looked in there before in case i got jealous lol

my builds arent severely untidy

but i am a function over form person

so main thing for me is how well it works before how good it looks

so cant compete with some of those builds that have almost an OCD attention to detail

You say this as right now my pc is completely torn apart for its annual change things around/deep clean cycle. Currently I'm in the garage waiting on paint to dry. Tore the lid off an old CD drive, I need a 5.25" base so I can stick my hdd up next to the optical drive and took out the 2nd hdd cage. Looked too cramped (fit fine in my R5, just looked too busy in that bottom corner). Had to make some room for my X61 in pull configuration at intake, it used to be push up top. Next couple hours will be getting some OCD wiring done 😀

Got the idea from the gallery...

Apart from the gallery here and on various other forums, google image searches are a good place to start. Pertaining to going the DIY approach and modding your case/parts to match your build, always remember that with an all white interior you can have a pink LED give you a greater affect or that you can have an all white build/case internals with a few components in pink, like the heatsinks on your motherboards VRM and ram.

If I may, pulled this up from Dave's builds:
https://www.bit-tech.net/modding/2017/04/21/corsair-460x-build-for-bomenzzz-part-3/1

The problem is balancing the color in your case/build. How you attack this problem is totally up to you. Cycle the problem to 10 times and you will come up with 10 different solutions 😉

FYI, the build I've linked is watercooled but you can achieve the same with an air cooler.
