I'm trying to build a computer for my husband to upgrade the dinosaur he is playing WoW on currently. I need it to be as cheap as possible and I'm hoping to reuse some of the parts from his current computer for now but I will upgrade those in the future. Right now I'm just looking at getting the motherboard/cpu, a new case and power supply.

Approximate Purchase Date: this week

Budget Range: cheap as possible

System Usage from Most to Least Important: WoW and internet

Parts Not Required: keyboard, monitor, mouse, os, disk drive and here are the parts I have...
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3160023AS-RK 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive

Nvidia Geforce 6800 graphics card

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg

Country of Origin: usa

Parts Preferences: no preference

Overclocking: no

SLI or Crossfire: no

Monitor Resolution:1280x1024

Additional Comments: I would like to get it as quiet as I can. I know the graphics card is a dinosaur but I'm going to replace it in the next few months. We are on a budget crunch since we are taking our little one to disney and I don't want to spend a ton of money on a new computer atm. Thanks for your help :)

ddr3 is faster than ddr2, however the addition of the ram will run you another 50-75 assuming you go with 4 gigs (2x2gig)

however the cpu/mobo will run aroudn the same fo ra mobo that uses ddr3, whats your actual budget and we can try to get you ddr3 cpu mobo

i'd sitill reccomend the same case and psu for the price

Having looked thru the benches this would be my choice for lost cost WOW (latest edition) with "good quality" settings/DX9

$342AR since u have HDD/ODD

Though there wasn't any testing of low resolutions, you should check out the article from today about Cataclysm performance. It even gives you a tip on how to enable DX11 (if you have a new card capable of it) for performance benefits.

Always go with batuchka's low cost builds, there is really no competition. :)
