Few days ago I set up Buffalo WHR-600D. I was happy there is already factory version of DD-WRT (v24SP2-build 23392) so there was no need to flash it. It work perfectly, that is, till around 7pm to 10pm everyday. Around then download speed drops from 50/20 Mbps to less then 10/20Mbps. This happens on LAN and also WLAN. So far I reseted ISP modem, my Buffalo router, PC in all possible combinations and nothing happened. When I disconnected router and connected directly via ISP modem/router I got normal speed. After a 3-4 hours everything goes back to normal. I already did hard reset on router, I reinstalled original non DD-WRT firmware and then reinstalled back to DD-WRT. All the same. I did have some difficulties with connecting from desktop PC directly to ISP, which didn't occur with laptops, so I figured maybe it could be something wrong with my LAN card, but then again...well I guess there wouldn't be problems with speed loss on other computers. More and more I'm sure it must be router, maybe some weird setting. I already changed cables, so I'm sure it's not cable.

It is possible that your ISP's equipment is overloaded during those times. What type of ISP do you have? Cable modem? DSL?
Your ISP could even be throttling you during heavy periods to prevent total system overload. Your agreement with the ISP probably has some weasel language that your speeds aren't guaranteed...

I thought of that as first problem, but I don't believe that is an issue. I have optical connection and 50/20 is guaranteed. When i connect directly to ISP mode I get little bit more then 50/20Mbps, which is as should be. I also have no IPTV or any other other traffic at that time, which could steal download speed. I did a lot of testing and I'm sure it router issue or maybe there could be some issue with modem to router connection. Anyway...I already manage to get new router from store where I bought it and I'll probably know if that solve my problems in next hour. What really eludes me the most is that weird timing of speed loss.

Could it be your router is overheating?

I just tested second router (same model) which I got from store. Same thing happened....entierly new setup, with new router.

But I also checked local lan speed and it works at normal speed. Looks router have some kind problem with WAN. Maybe i should switch modem to DHCP and disable bridge on ISP modem? Could this make my troubles go away?

This problem is getting me crazy
Firstly...I got new router from shop. And absolutely nothing changed, so I don't believe it's malfunction anymore. At more or less same time bandwidth slowdown occurred again. I did play around with different setting and this is what I find out.

1. Speed slow down happen every day at more or less same time. It usually starts from 6-7pm and lasts till around 10pm.
2. Reseting any device won't do shit.
3. Reverting back to factory setting, reinstalling original software or reinstalling DD-WRT again won't do shit.
4. Slow down seems to effect only internet speed as browsing various urls, watching you tube etc., but not p2p. I stopped all torrents, closed utorrent and checked speedtest and it was something less then 10Mbps. After that I started to download torrents, just random ones, whichever had more seed and download got almost to 3,5MB/s which is more or less around 35Mbps.
5. If I connect more devices (I connected one more over cable and 3 more over wifi) and start speed test with all of them simultaneously, they get close to 10Mbps...so altogether I'm getting right speed.
6. Right after I applied some firewall settings (Block Anonymous WAN Requests and Block WAN SNMP access and probably some other too - been a long day) speed actually rise to normal, back went back down after maybe 30 seconds.
7. I connected both PPPeO and DHCP - all the same. Which is weird though....I can connect to PPPeO while ISP modem in not in bridge mode. I'm more or less newbei, but I did some home networks in my time and I never seen that before Smile

Right, I almost forgot. I did test local network speed but I can't tell this reading is good or bad.

So hopefully any one could provide me with solution one of this days?
