Hey guys,

I'm looking for the best gaming desktop mic for under $150. I need it to not pick up any background noise at all or pretty close. I'm pretty heavy into gaming and I have a open concept apartment and the girlfriend is about 12 feet away from me with the TV on. My current mic is garage is pick's EVERYTHING up and it annoys everyone I play with ( which I don't blame them ).

I only do gaming and no pod cast or anything like that. I was looking at the Blue Snowball mic but I get mix review's on the background nose that it pick's up. Any input on this mic or I'm completely open to suggestion's.

Solution

Honestly it's one of the most effective solutions. Since it's USB it can work directly and effectively with the provided software, allowing for easier setup and usage.

If you would like to know more. I like this one very much. For the most part it's nice when you're on the go or looking for a quick fix. But again, there's nothing you can't do with regular analog and various software combinations.

I'll for sure look into the software ! I kind of need a desktop mic now because I bought myself a pair of ATX-900x so there's no mic on those :)

Edit: are the yeti worth the extra money for the snowball's ??

cardioid microphones are what you want if you are trying to isolate sound pickup (they generally only pickup from the front side in the center).

(if you want some basics on microphones click the "headphones" link in my signature and you can read a little about them on my still unfinished headphones & microphones guide...)

in that budget i would take a good look at both the audiotechnica at2020usb+ and the blue microphone yeti. both are superb microphones.

the at2020 is cardioid only while the yeti has 3 different modes. personally i prefer the sound of the at2020 myself (purely opinion) but both are very good choices.

also of mention is the atr2500 which is a cheaper mic similar, but also not quite as good as the at2020. if you want quality i'd go with the above, though i'm just throwing this out there for reference.

the blue snowball is a good cheaper microphone as well (same price range as the atr2500) but is plagued by low volume levels and other minor issues. still not a bad choice for users on a budget but there are better.
