Ok so basically I got a pc from my uncle but I wanna upgrade it. The thing I mainly use it for is playing Minecraft Modpacks which my current one cant. But the thing is the parts in this pc are too old that I can't upgrade it so I need to basically start from scratch. Here are the current parts:

Motherboard: AsusTek Berkeley
Cpu: Intel Core 2 Duo E6550
Ram: 5GB DDR2 Dual Channel
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT660

The hard drive and PSU are grand and I'm gonna keep them. Here are the parts I plan on buying to upgrade it:

Motherboard: http://www.dabs.ie/products/asus-h81m-plus-s1150-intel-h81-ddr3-matx-8Y68.html

RAM: http://www.dabs.ie/products/crucial-8gb--2-x-4gb--ddr3-1600mhz-non-ecc-dimm-240-pin-c11-87Y9.html

CPU: http://www.dabs.ie/products/intel-core-i5-4440-s1150-3-10ghz-6mb-8XTR.html

CASE: http://www.dabs.ie/products/best-value-k2-gamer-case---120mm-red-fan-usb-3-0---500w-alpine-psu-8PLG.html

So basically am I going about this the correct way ? I am learning about Computer Architecture in college so I think these parts suit each other but id like to get feedback from you guys and know if theres any altercations I should make.

Thanks in advanced

The parts you picked are decent for a budget PC, for minecraft you need a strong graphics card for playing it with nicer graphics and far distance, your graphic card is really weak and low performance, consider upgrading that too in the near future.

The i5 procesor doesn't have hyperhreading(doing multiplay tasks at the same time), Minecraft is kinda CPU intensive and likes hyperthreading so if you can afford you should get a cheap i7 instead. The Motherboard you picked doesn't support next generation storage drives like M.2 and Sata Express, which you might not need for now. Select as best answer if this helped you. =)

All Micro ATX boards fit on an ATX case, that's not a problem, if he wants a bigger case let him have it, it's not like it cost more than a mATX case.

If you can, can you link me a cheap i7 that i could get and a MB ?

Also when building a computer one of the most important parts you do not want to skimp on is the power supply.
You said you want to use the Alpine power supply that comes with the case. I am unfamiliar with this brand of power supply.
I try to stick with the corsair brand. This power supply may be great but i tend to shy away from power supply that come bundled with cases.

A bad power supply can make your system very unstable.

i7 4790 is cheapest new i7 you can get. http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i7-4790-Processor-BX80646I74790/dp/B00J56YSLM/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1414592778&sr=1-3

Well there are no really cheap new i7, but you might want to look for second hand ones or just stick with i5, it is still good enough for minecraft.

You graphic card can work on nicer graphics as you said, the problem is than it doesn't work smootly, it makes 15 frames per second or less on average instead of 60 fps you should be having, having lower graphics settings and smooth 60 fps experience is always better than having max graph settings with slow unresponsive gaming with freezes and such.

I use optifine with Minecraft and yet still have the settings maxed, I have the FPS locked at 120 and it always stays at that

350w power supply is enough for his low end graphics cards, if the power supply is less than 2 years old, otherwise you should consider getting a new or just buying the pc case with a power supply.

derekullo, you mentioned i7 4790K, the one for overclocking that costs 30$ more.
