Question Build advice, 1000 budget Got it down to 1300.

A friend asked me to help build him a PC, but I mostly work in software, so I am a little out of my depth here. I have made a build that goes for 1300 CAD but wanted advice on A: possibly reducing the cost while keeping the ability to do what the user wants, and B: to know if there are any conflicts with the individual parts.

Approximate Purchase Date: Next couple of weeks. Black Friday if possible. I was kind of asked last minute, so I will not be surprised if this is not possible.

Budget Range: Approx. 1000 Before Rebates, Before Shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, surfing the internet, watching movies

Are you buying a monitor: Unknown, probably

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Please note that if you're using an OEM license of Windows, you will need a new one when buying a new motherboard. Put an OEM in the list, but will probably require to buy a USB. Not too much difference in price.

What is the build going to be about? Editing? Gaming? That 1050ti can't do much these days, even my O/C RX 570 started sweating a lot these past few months with the new releases.

Mostly gaming. Unfortunately my instinct is to go a little higher, but I gotta cut somewhere to fit in with my buddy's budget. Think Fallout 4 and Skyrim. Given when they came out the 1050 Ti should be okay. Though it has been a while I might be wrong.

Do not buy a 1050ti at 223 CAD. Might as well put 80 more dollars to get a 1660 Super which is ~94% faster than a 1050ti.

You can even buy a used 1050ti on Ebay.ca at 66 dollars. Really not worth the price they are asking for that card.

You are going for an i9-9900K but then just 1050ti? I am no expert at all, but what from what I have researched that is incredibly mismatched.

If you play at 1080p a 1660 super would be a better choice.

If it's going to be mostly about gaming, get a Ryzen 5 2nd/3rd gen or an i5 CPU with a less expensive motherboard and spend more money on the GPU. That i9 is very overkill for gaming. The 1050ti just isn't capable enough for gaming nowadays.
