Build Advice ~$1500-1750

Hey guys, I need some advice on a build I was making. I already have a monitor (Sammy 22" it's only 1680 x 1050 though) and a DVD burner so those aren't really necessary right now. But here is what I have so far.

you have a gfx card there thats more than enough for that resolution . Waste of $$$$ unless you are changing the monitor for a 24 - 30 inch in the next year or so .

I was thinking it was a little much... what about dropping it down to a 260 core 216 or a 4870 and bumping the HD up to a Raptor 300GB?

The Scythe Mugen 2 cooler is a better value than the Coolermaster V8.

If you want to leave room to SLI the GTX 260 later, then you will need to bump up your PSU to the Corsair 850TX. With the 4870, 750TX is fine for Crossfire.

You also forgot Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit.

That will be a very sweet build!

I think I'm going to go with the Raptor, I have 2 other HD's (one internal, one external) that I can use for data.

I've never heard of the Mugen cooler, I'll have to look at it and do some research.

And as far as the Vista goes, I have a Ultimate 64bit that I can use, forgot to mention that.

If you are looking to overclock, you should look at getting the P6T deluxe instead. Here is a review of that mobo, the regular P6T OC'd higher than it did, the P6T Deluxe goes even higher:

Make sure you disable the Vista Ultimate features you don't need for best performance.

If you do switch to the P6T Deluxe, be aware that the V2 is now out, though apparently in limited supply.

Akebono is there anything really new and improved on the V2? I know it doesn't have SAS ports and there was a slight layout modification...?

I would like to know as well, if I can wait a little bit and get V2 that would be better.

The only technical difference is the deletion of the SAS controller and ports on the V2. However, my general sense of it is that there have been many problems with the introduction of the original P6T Deluxe (i.e. it was half-baked) and the way it has been handled suggests that the V2 is a fix along the same lines as Windows SP1. It would have to be more than something that is fixable with a BIOS update for them to introduce a V2, especially so soon after the launch of the original. The removal of SAS, to me, is just an excuse to fix the bigger underlying problems that will unlikely be revealed. However, maybe I'm thinking too deeply about the business angle.

That being said, many posts indicate that pros have their P6T Deluxes up and running with nice overclocks, so if you have no problems, then that's great. I, however, view this mobo as a significant long-term investment which is why I would personally prefer to wait for the V2 and have also been recommending the same in these forums.
