All of the "x1yy" models are first generation. The second generation have a 2 and the third generation have a 3.
A 6226 or 6242 would get you 16 cores. Prices rise as the base clock speed rises.
Ok. I think I found one that doesn't cost 3000, has 16 cores and is second generation: XEON GOLD 6226R.

So I figure that, ASUS Pro WS C621-64L SAGE/10G , SAMSUNG 32GB M393A4K40CB2-CTD7Q DDR4-2666 ECC X4 for 128 gig, and Noctua NH-U14S DX-3647 cooler. Those parts should all be compatible, and they should fit into my case. Sound good?

You want 6 DIMMs to maximize performance with the Xeon.

Ok. So SAMSUNG 32GB M393A4K40CB2-CTD7Q DDR4-2666 ECC X6. Anything else?
you will need DDR4-2933 for this CPU .

Also , intel-xeon-gold-6208u is the same CPU but is cheaper because it does not work in 2 CPU configuration .

The CPU you chosen is more expensive just because it supports 2 CPUs.

I would send email to Asus and ask if the 6208U is supported or not.

here see the comparison

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/compare.html?productIds=199347,199348

The $300 more is just for 2 CPUs Version .. you wont need that.

Also , the 20 cores one is the same price but lower clocks

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/192452/intel-xeon-gold-6210u-processor-27-5m-cache-2-50-ghz.html

Also if you want to pay 1450$ you can get the 24 cores one
6212U

2933 X 6. Got it. I actually did email Asus about the 6208. It looks like it should work. This is the response:

I understand that you need more information about XEON GOLD 6208U. I do apologize for that. Rest assured I'll help you about this concern. We cannot assured that it will work to the motherboard since it is not listed on the QVL. Please follow the CPU QVL because those device are already tested by our product engineer.

So, what do you think? Like you said, it has the same specs as the 6226 which is on their list, only it is for single processor systems. Do I risk it? I would think so. If you look at the spec sheet, it specifically states at the top:
Processor / System Bus 1X Socket P (LGA 3647)
1st and 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable Processor Family
Xeon W-3200 Processors.

Since the 6208 is a 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable Processor, it should work.

Opinion?
