this is my new computer I will be building shortly. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zHqZzy

All my parts should be in had next tuesday so I am going to try to build it after the 4th. I have built numerous computers in the past but my last set up was in 2008 and a dual core Athlon and with vista Ultimate.

My main concerns are with the ssd as I have never used one before. I asked and was told to set up os on it just like normal. I have read a ton of articles saying to do this and dont do that. What is best advice for good maintance of the ssd and what is best to put on it and what is best for the hdd? I am guessing os and 3 or so of my main games I play and the rest to be on the hdd like office and media stuff.

My next question is about Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. I am a student (again) so the os was cheap so I went with ultimate. What all is suggested for windows seven to best safeguard my system? I have AVG anti malware that i will put on it but what else is suggested. Please no norton or macfee.

Is there a good guide on programs that should be used and downloaded to enhance the system other than what comes with the motherboard and drivers? I have read to test everything with prime program. What are some good suggested programs to keep the system running well.

Is it best to get all the latest drivers downloaded to a usb and get them installed before hooking up to the internet and getting online? I will try to get protection on my system before going to the net but was wondering if anyone has a recommended software install sequences that will keep the computer safe till you can get all the windows updates installed.

I want to overclock but I have never done it before. I will wait till after the thermal paste is good and set and want to wait to see if a guide is put out for my mobo/cpu combo so that I can follow it. Is there anything special I will need to do when building that will help overclock later? I did pick up the mx 4 to use with the coolmaster.

Overall a great build , but I'd like to suggest a few changes , if you have not already purchased it.

GPU: $410 - Asus R9 290 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121842 (Better performance than GTX 770 )

OS: $100 -
1.Windows 7 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416806&cm_re=windows-_-32-416-806-_-Product
2.Windows 8.1 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416776&cm_re=windows-_-32-416-776-_-Product
Since you are a student you could save some cash buy puchasing these . Features offered in Ultimate version are not required unless you are in IT admin.

SSD: $140 - Samsung EVO 250GB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA29P1EC5222 ( More Reliable, and...
A SSD is just a fast HDD, just install windows just like on a HDD. However, DO NOT defrag a SSD, it will wear it down and it doesn't need defrag because it has memory chips, not a spinning platter.

Use Webroot, it's fast and it is the smallest anti virus I've ever seen.

Yes use a usb to download all the drivers then just install them through that usb.

After applying thermal paste and cooler, you are set for overclocking.

I have already purchased my components. Sorry I had a super bad time with ati back in 2002 and vowed to never use them again. It is a personal choice and honestly the 770 is better than what I really need. I got my os from the bookstore for 30 bucks so couldnt beat that deal. Microsoft office 2013 for 27.
