Hey everyone, I'd really appreciate some feedback on the build I've put together!

Here are the components I've chosen:

GPU: MSI RTX 3060 12GB (Link)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-core (Link)

CPU Cooler: DeepCool AK620 (Link)

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz (Link)

PSU: Antec Earthwatts Gold Pro 650W 80 Plus (cant find link I used)

CASE: Fractal Design Meshify C Black ATX (Link)

MOBO: MSI MPG B550 (Link)

- I have HHDs and SSDs so I don't need to buy one but a suggestion on a good one is always appreciated!

I'm not the most experienced in building PCs, so I'm seeking advice on whether this is a good combination or if there are any changes you would recommend. Thank you in advance for your help!

I should also add I want to use this PC to host port forwarded server for my friends and mess with making a media server

3900X? Most have moved onto the 3D chips. Even the newer 5900X is only $300 at amazon. I'm not sure why you are looking at an older more expensive 12core chip. I also find it odd that you are using a B550 board. I've always leaned towards the better X boards. You are also putting a lot of money into the CPU and getting a weaker GPU.

The system you have picked out isn't bad per se. There are just some odd choices in there.

So with the 3900x, It was a gift, I didn't have to pay for it so I went with using it. What would you suggest I change then? MOBO I mean.

And your talking about this CPU? (Link)

I can spend about $800 onto this to make it better

Could you tell us what you have already then, and what you don't? It's hard to give good advice if we don't know what things are already selected.

Yes, sorry I should've said something before.

Right now I have the ram,cpu and cpu cooler and the case but can be used on another pc, willing to get a better one if you think its bad choice.

The CPU was a gift so I can spend money on a better one. Will just use this current CPU in another pc

The 3900X is a nice CPU, unless your very demanding in your frame rates I would keep it. The CPU cooler also should be more than sufficient.

I don't have a problem with any of the build, I also use the Meshify C for my system. You say you want to use it as a media server, I assume you also want to use it as a gaming system, hence the 3060?

Yes, I don't play hard demanding games so I thought a 3060 would be a middle ground. Media server wouldn't be 24/7 just wanting to try it out and mess with it and just learn.

Is that with something like Plex running locally by any chance? That makes sense then with the 3060, from what you describe it would seem both CPU and GPU would be more than capable for your use case.

I've looked into Plex and might mess with that for my family but like I said it's pretty basic stuff I'll be doing so I thought this build would be more than enough I would need. All would be Local. Do you think that MOBO is okay? I wasn't sure about it and besides here I had 2 other people tell me its not a good choice but not sure why it wouldn't be.

Fair enough, for 'basic stuff' I would have thought a 3900X would be over the top at 12 cores.

In terms of the board, the VRM's on the MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge were a bit s***. Hardware Unboxed did some testing on it and I think it got to something like 115C with the 3900X and a small overclock. Don't quote me but it looks like this board may share the same VRM design, if so then it's best avoided. The B550 Mag Tomahawk would be a safer bet I think, it's much stronger in that area and had pretty low temps even when overclocking. I also have experience with one and it seems a solid board and very cool. I have a few Mag boards actually, B550 Mag Tomahawk, B460 Mag Mortar and Z490 Mag Tomahawk. The VRM's are strong on all of them.

Thank you for the advice and answering my other question. I'll check out these you listed and see which one I like best.

Your welcome, it's only the B550 Mag Tomahawk that's appropriate here, the other two were for Intel. My point was I've used a few of the series and they are all pretty solid. If you wanted some alternatives to look at, I would also recommend the Asus Rog Strix B550-F and Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro. The Asus Tuf Gaming B550-Plus is also a worthy consideration.
