I just installed Fusion 360 to do some hobby modeling for a 3d printer.

System specs I'm using
i7 980x
Asus rampage 3 extreme
12GB mushkin 1600mhz CL6
3 GTX 780 Ti
windows 7 64bit

While most of my drawings are small in nature due to the 200x200x250mm print bed size, i have loaded one of our CAD drawings of a car seat mold from work and it has handled it just as well as the small parts i make.

I also plan to put Fusion on my laptop that has a newer CPU i7 4700MQ single gtx 780m and 16GB of ram to see how it will handle the program.

I'd like to build a system in the $700 range, but I could increase the budget if there's a significant advantage to going higher.

I'd like to learn the benefits/impact of each component choice so I can understand what I'm paying for.

Cad likes few fast cores and on this budget that's about the best that fits.

Cam/rendering likes more cores but this still has enough to do some heavy lifting

16gb faster ram will help with both cad/cam work

SSD so you can pull up and manulipulate files quicker.. if you need a platter drive for more space add one

Video performance isn't critical just wanted a gpu to take the load off the cpu where it could

Decent case and solid power supply

Z series board not required but I'd you ever wanted to make it a monster rig you can add a 8700k and overclock it later
