Recently I’ve just got from basic training in the army and was looking forward to switching over from my Xbox to pc.I wanted to build my own pc but didn’t know where to start.My budget is around 1500(can go over if needed)for the build was looking for some build recommendations was mostly going to be gaming/heavy Vr.

A monitor and windows are separate from the overall price but I needed it to at least be able to handle really any game I throw at it at 1080p/medium settings

General advice:

For the average person, the most critical component is the CPU...you'd want to spend as much as reasonably possible on that. Say maybe 300 in your case.

But...the more you emphasize gaming, the more important the GPU becomes. Some people pay 800 and 1000 for that alone.

Off the top of my head...

100 for the case, 75 for a decent larg-ish air cooler; 200 to 250 for a good motherboard; 75 for 16 gb of RAM; 100 for an SSD boot drive; 75 a decent power supply. for miscellaneous like case fans

That leaves roughly 850 for GPU and CPU...

You have to decide how much of that 850 to give to the GPU...

650 GPU and 200 CPU?

550 GPU and 300 CPU?

Or maybe 400 GPU and 200 CPU and keep the 250 you saved in your pocket.

How intensely interested in gaming are you.....rather than anything else?

Not too intense just want to be able to if I wanted to one day play any games that are out or have a good upgradable path for newer components

Upgradable path........there's only a slight chance that the mid and high end CPUs from 2025 will be usable on any current motherboard. You'd probably have to buy a new motherboard too.

DDR5 RAM is just creeping into the market now and will likely be dominant over DDR4 within a couple of years. A motherboard is likely only to accept one or the other...not both.

GPU prices have been ridiculous lately, but I hear talk they may have peaked and may be trending down. Maybe you can save 100 or 200 by waiting 3 months? I don't know....I don't buy video cards.

Drives, cases, coolers, and power supply may remain compatible for longer periods....without becoming outdated.

Me? If I wanted Intel, I'd choose from i5-12600K, i7-12700, or i7-12700K...........but I don't game. You may want to go lower, like 12400, so you can spend more on the GPU. Try to achieve a balance, depending on your most important requirements.

Passmark CPU benchmark scores;

First number is all threads, second number is for just a single thread

12400; 19534/3530

12600K; 27434/3965

12700; 31677/3947

12700K; 34157/4048

Look those over. At your budget, you'd probably want at least a 12600k.

Moving from the 12600k to the 12700 might cost 70.

From the 12700 to the 12700k is another 50 to 100.

You can see scores are higher the more you pay. You have to decide if the extra is more "worth it" than spending the same dollars on some other component....a better video card; more hard drive space, a better power supply or case, etc.

I have no idea what video card you need or what it might cost.
