Hi guys. I'm currently rebuilding a system that currently has genuine Windows 10 on it. I'm swapping out the hard drive for an SSD and putting in a new motherboard and processor as well, so I need to reinstall the OS. I have a Windows 7 OEM disc, but its product code has already been used. I'm wondering if it's possible to install Windows 7 without activating it, and then pay for and download Windows 10.

Upgrading from 7 to 10 will require that the existing Win 7 be valid and activated.
You can't upgrade from a non-activated Win 7, and apply a valid Win 10 license later.

You could buy Win 10 online from MS, and get the relevant license key via email. Today. Don't have to wait for something to arrive int he mail.
