I would like to use parts from the laptop, i9 11xxx processor, ssd drive and Hard drive. Need MB, cooler, memory, and case. Nvidia graphics card also. I want to verify that all components are compatible.

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: today
Budget Range: 1000-2000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Game FF14

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: New system
Do you need to buy OS: No

Please note that if you're using an OEM license of Windows, you will need a new one when buying a new motherboard.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts:
newegg.com

Location: Florence Arizona

Parts Preferences: NO ASUS

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1200

Additional Comments: I would like to use the i9 processor from my dead laptop as well as the SSD and Harddrive.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My POS ASUS Zepherous M16 had fan noise issues, trying to replace the fans made the system inop. Been building systems since X86, decided to go back and do it again, at least I know the parts I have and how to install them.

I may be missing something here, but laptop parts aren't generally something you can just remove and put in a different machine anymore (when they were at all) outside of some very specific makes. It appears that the CPU in this machine is a typical mobile processor, so this isn't something you can just drop into a PC motherboard. The drives should pose no issue.

If the CPU isn't soldered, you might be able to find a "NUC" or mini PC that is compatible and in that case may even be able to bring over the RAM if it isn't soldered as well.

Newegg has been running some pretty decent combo deals with Intel on the front page. Might be worth checking for the core components.

Yep, only BGA listed for that chip. So it is soldered on. GPU is almost certainly solder. If it was the 4070, that isn't too bad to beat with desktop components for $2000.

There are some people doing laptop CPU to desktop conversions, but I don't believe they are for hire. And generally not with such recent models.

I will put something together. 1440p should be doable to be honest.

This should do. Intel alternative would be something like a 13700K and a Z790 motherboard.

All MSI was a bit of a coincidence, but if you wanted to skip the monitor you could potentially step up to an RTX4080 or AMD 7900XT/XTX

This falls mostly under the header "sketchy things that Ali Express sells"

Oh, and nice build list.
Thanks. I aim for parts that hopefully won't let people down instantly rather than shooting for the cheapest possible.

I've seen a few videos on them. All they really do is solder the chip to an interposer, add a custom heatspreader, and modify a BIOS to accept it. Also a few where they just solder it to a custom motherboard and then put a custom heat spreader on it so regular desktop coolers fit.

If I hadn't picked up a 12100F I would be considering one for my living room PC. Lack of BIOS updates could be concerning, but considering it is an entertainment box for me. (So is my gaming PC to be honest) not much can go wrong.

It looks like I need to get a CPU then. I want an Intel CPU. Have a good monitor, so no need for that. and I want a small case, no lights and sirens etc, just a box to put all the innards in. I will look at parts picker.

Haven't figured out how to get the neat parts list like above, so I just copied the Url.

There has been much talk about these manner of modifications, particularly in light of the demand for the season. By and large, it turns into stuff like "FrankenBIOS" and other such third party solutions that may work but at the same time, what else is in that code that one might be concerned about?

When you say "small case" do you mean like Mini-ITX, or just not the full on tower size stuff?
M-ATX is the least expensive option for motherboards and cases. There are some really decent looking stuff in that realm as well. Anything M-ITX costs a bit more but is also substantially smaller in most cases. The other aspect with M-ITX is a lack of expansion room available for daughter cards/add ons.

I am just looking for something for deskside, That doesn't scream "I am a Computer". The suggested build has ATX mid tower, that would probably be OK.

Still. that is a relatively big Mid-Tower.

Not a lot of decent DDR5 Micro ATX motherboards (both of the available are ASUS sadly)

Mini-ITX board in a Micro ATX case is doable.

Was the white chassis a deliberate selection? Could lean into that, though white parts do often come with a slight premium.

A few suggested changes.

I have SSD and disk. What am I missing? Always missing something. Changed the case to black!

I stuck to the cpu, I want onboard graphics. I want the best that I can get for a reasonable price. Not trying to save a few bucks on any of the componants.

You are way overpaying for an RTX 4070. Those start at $540. I know that is one I suggested, but that price must have been temporary.

This one is only $600

The CPU cooler will come with adequate thermal compound. Arctic Silver 5 is not a great thermal compound. Back in 2002, sure, but not now. (They also reformulated it a long time ago, not close to what it used to be) If you want to pick up a tube of something, I like Arctic MX-4, Tom's likes MX-5. Arctic Cooling is not associated with Arctic Silver just so everyone knows.

Potentially some additional case fans, but you can always get those later.

That thing is gonna beat FFXIV into the ground. I love it. I'm running a 3060 12gb (for now, new card on the way) and at 1440p ultra I get between 90 and 180fps. 7.0 will move that needle some I expect but regardless, that machine will serve you well.

Old habits die hard. Artic Silver was the way to go, "And we Liked it That way!!" This is what I ordered, so its to late for any changes:

Somehow I lost the last config, when ordered it was $1407, now we just wait for the parts, should be all here by "Festival of Greed".

I would like to thank you all for seeing me through these most trying of times. I still have not found where I can assign points for all the helpful people, until then your points are in my heart.

When I finally get all the parts, I will probably be back with even more questions. Until then, a BIG thank you to all, and a merry "Festival of Greed"!

Is there a shortage of memory in the world? Most of my parts are here except the memory. Delivery 12/22-26.
Would it be possible to get some cheap memory from Beast Buy, to get the system up and running, until the good stuff comes. If so, what would be the cheapest I could use on the system ie. 8Gb ddr1 or something.

Probably just holiday logistics. I have a UPS tracking number for something, hasn't updated past 'label created' for quite a few days.

Not really, it would have to be DDR5, and the only memory BestBuy has (likely online anyway, in store would be a different matter) is basically full price.
