Hello Everyone
I built my current System about 4 or 5 years ago and it has been serving me well. I have noticed some bottlenecks recently though, so I was thinking of upgrading my build. I have to add that I do not have very indepth knowledge on this topic. I watched youtube videos and read reports/reviews to build my system. So Im not sure if I should just start a new build because of the new gen cpu and ddr5 ram or if I should just tweak some of my components and wait a few more years to upgrade to the new gen later on.

My current build is:

CPU: AMD Rxzen 9 3900x 12 core, AM4, 3.9GHz
GPU: MSI 2080ti gaming trio x
MB: MSI MEG X570 Ace
RAM: 64 GB

I was wondering if it'd be enough to upgrade to a 4090 since my MB is compatible with pcie 4.0. But is my CPU good enough for it? if not is there an older gen CPU I could upgrade to? Or should I just completely rebuild for the new gen cpu und ram?

Thanks a lot in advance for your feedback it is greatly appreciated.

Will the 3900X get the same frames per second as a 7900X3D with a 4090, no it won't. Will you still get more FPS than you are getting with your 2080Ti, yes. That said you can drop in a 5700/5800 series X3D CPUs and get a good boost in FPS with games that can use the extra cache. The 5700X3D goes for $200 right now and the 5800X3D is $330. The 5700X3D is the better buy and you might be able to get the clocks to the 5800X3D levels as well. Both of those will be better gaming CPUs than the 3900X.

Thank you very much for the tipps! I will definetly look up the chips you mentioned.

If you have to have something now, A 5700x3d. If you can wait, I would say wait and see how Ryzen 9000 plays out when it releases next month. If anything, there may be a fire sale on Ryzen 7000 series chips, as a result. Do you happen to live near a Microcenter?
Thanks a lot! Waiting for the release seems like a good idea! I will definetly take it into consideration.

Which PSU do you have in your current rig?

for a 4090, I would suggest a good 1000W model.
Thanks for the advicce! I have a Seasonic 1000W so I should be safe. Im just curious if it'd be smarter to upgrade to a cheaper gpu than the 4090.
Would I be able to fully use the 4090 with the upgraded cpu as jeremy and why_me suggested? Or would it be smarter to go for a cheaper 4080 or 3090?
Thanks again for your advice!
