I thought about several things so just pointing them out to rule out of the way.
970 SLI -> Its good but single 980 would have less micro stutter and less headache.. I think
970 -> 15% less performance than 980, but I am reducing to 4690k i5 cpu to cover part of the cost on upgrade GPU

Since I am going for a single 980 GPU, I want to build a mini case, such as
Hadron mini ITX or RVZ01B... Since hadron mini comes with PSU, I believe it is my #1 choice as it is cheaper

(Sorry I have no idea how to link)
GPU: EVGA GTX 980 4GB ACX 2.0 $548.85
CPU: Intel 4690k $208.99
Motherboard: ASRock Z97M-ITX $107.98
Case: EVGA Hadron mini ITX Tower Case w/ 500W $101.98 (Power enough?)

CPU cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVOwith 120mm PWM Fan $34.99
- I tried using pcpartpicker but it does not show up... Is it compatible?

RAM: Picking Any RAM that is $60 2133 Mhz 8GB when deal shows up.
- Is this a good aim? 8GB enough? Brand?

SSD: PNY Optima 240GB $69.99 (Newegg black friday deal)
- Good idea to go for any SSD looking at cheapest and largest storage?

Windows: Windows 8.1... $85

TOTAL: 1217.79

Solution
first ... in mini itx build , you can put inside the case anything and anyhow

you have to choose which case you prefer depending of what components dimensions need to

the gpu you choosed it does not fit in this case
and its not a good idea to choose a case because the psu is included ... because of the need in wattage and quality of psu
