My friend wants a computer and asked me to pick out the parts for him. If you guys have any advice on how I can probably get better parts and save money please let me know as this is a very early wishlist of what I want to get him.

CD burner

Please let me know if there would be any problems with this build such as component not fitting (GPU is to big for case, PSU is to crappy). Or if you have any recommendations especially for the case, motherboard and if I should get a cd burner or not. I would like to keep around 1300 dollar range. He plans on playing at 1080p so 60 fps+ Is what we are looking for.

A lot of people seem to be having issue with that motherboard. I would try the ASUS Z97-AR or the Z97-A. The Gigabyte UD5H is an amazing board too.

Is there any reason you want him to overclock? I would just get a Xeon 1231 V3 instead. Has hyperthreading, and you will save a lot. You can get a motherboard that is a lot cheaper. Like $60 cheaper. The ASRock H97 PRO4 would be good for that CPU. And then you can ditch the cooler. It will definitely perform better than the 4690k in games like Witcher 3 where the game can use the hyperthreading.

For memory, although the stuff you used is good, this stuff is $7 cheaper and does the same thing :p: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233186

And last but certaintly the biggest problem.. the SSD. Run miles from the SSD. I wouldn't touch that thing with Latex gloves and a ten-foot-long pole. Buy a Crucial BX100. It's an amazing SSD for it's price.

For the HDD. I believe that is an older drive. It only has 32MB of cache versus the 64MB which is typical. WD Black, BLACK SERIES, and Caviar Black drives are all the same.

Here is the one you want: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236625&cm_re=BLACK_SERIES-_-22-236-625-_-Product

Hope that helped :)

how about a 1440p ips ultra settings gaming build?

this has a 980ti which will max out almost any game at 1440p.

The 4460 is a perfectly fine match for this GPU

This is a PSU manufactured by seasonic so it is good.

the cooler master n200 is a great micro atx case that comes with 2 fans

IF you're also planning to overclock that setup, 550w is probably not enough to adequately handle an overclocked CPU, especially if you also plan to overclock the graphics cards as well.

That's also a relatively poor PSU model. I'd go with this higher tiered unit instead:

That's a very old, and outdated, case model as well. This would be a MUCH better choice:

And I agree the motherboard isn't the best option out there. I'd recommend the Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5 which has better sound than the Z97-A, which otherwise is a pretty good board as well.

We do want to OC thats why I wanted to go with the k version CPU. I will look into a PSU, motherboard and case change based on your guys info. Thank you. I don't know if I want to change the gpu because we do plan on OC that a bit too.

If you are planning on running 1440p and are stuck at that GPU budget, buy an R9 390. You'll need atleast a 650W PSU though.. The 750W EVGA B2 is a good price right now if you go that direction.

Otherwise, stick with what dark said. All the parts he recommended are great options :)

again. This includes a 1440p ips monitor.

It really costs a lot to overclock and get the motherboard and the cooler, at that point it would be better to get a xeon e3 1231 v3 or a 4790k and run it stock.

People always have builds where they have a 4690k with a super expensive motherboard and a big heatsink when buying a 4790k would be better in almost every respect anyways.

an i5 4460 will do almost identically to a 4690k is the vast majority of games but a 980ti and a 1440p monitor is a fantastic option.

SSD or no SSD is up to you. For a gaming only machine it doesn't offer much if anything aside from faster boot times and map/level loading.
