How is this build (feel free to make any changes)! I have a 1080p monitor now, but will upgrade to 1440p on Black Friday 2014. I will use the computer for gaming, animating, video editing, etc.

There is also this Sapphire Tri-X OC Radron R9 290 for $410 AR. That said, I always preferred NVIDIA and the GTX 780. Which should I buy?

That is a great setup. Make sure that your RAM is dual channel (2 x 4 GB). I would also wait, because the Samsung 850 series is coming out soon. The 780 is fine, too.

nah, i would go for the 290. the $120 difference is def not going to be worth it

That is very true. The R9 290 is about equal to the GTX 780 and sometimes beats it.

I agree on the R9 290. I would probably go with a different motherboard as well. The Z97 extreme4 was well reviewed by THG, as was the MSI Z97 Gaming 5. Recently read a review of the storage capabilities of the extreme6, and found it to be an interesting board as well.

Those are good boards. If you can afford it, the Z97X-SOC Force generally performs best out of all of them. That's why I use it 😀

I admit than I am a bit of an Asrock fan. I have 2 different generations of extreme4 series, P67 and Z77, and they have been good to me.

This is my first Gigabyte board, and I have to say, I am AMAZED. I had 2 MSI Boards and an ASUS board, and the Gigabyte one is so far my favorite. My friend has an ASRock and is limited to 4 GHz with his 8320 because his board doesn't let him start on anything past there. He tried his chip in my Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 and it worked fine.

The vast majorit Asrock's AM3+ boards are not very good, I admit that much. You have to look at like an extreme killer or extreme9 to get a good AM3+ board. I normally recommend Gigabyte boards for AMD. GA-78LMT-usb3 for those never planning to go above 4.0ghz, 970a-ud3p for those that want good overclocking and single GPU, and 990fx-ud3 for those that want SLI/CF, and good overclocking. Asrock has some solid FM2+ boards, and I will probably go with Asrock if I ever get around to making my Kabini HTPC.
