The build you have is great but as you said this is a gaming pc so when I saw the i7 I thought it...
Much better fit for a gaming system. You don't need i7 for gaming, nor do you need liquid CPU cooler. The below mentioned SSD is a better quality, PSU is a much better quality. And much cheaper overall.

P.S. $1800 can hardly be called a "budget build".

What do you mean $1800 can't be a budget? A budget doesn't mean it is low priced a budget is just the amount of money he is going to be spending. If I had $5000 to spend on a pc that would be a budget of how much I am willing to spend.

The build you have is great but as you said this is a gaming pc so when I saw the i7 I thought it was a waste of money if you are only gaming, i7s have hyperthreading which helps in editing and rendering and doesn't give any extra performance in games so I went with the best i5, it gives great single core performance and will be great for every game you throw at it. The CPU cooler was great but I thought if your budget is that high you need one of the best coolers around the NH-D14 can easily compete with any aio cooler on the market, but if you want to water cool your CPU I would have gone with the Corsair H100i. I changed the motherboard to a cheaper one but the quality of it is very high and I doubt you will run into any problems with it. You chose one 970 but with your high budget why not add another in sli 2 970's give better performance than a single 980 and they're cheaper. Other than that the only other thing that I changed was the power supply as it is fully modular to help with cable management so you don't have to use cables you don't need and this will help with airflow, also it is gold rated so allround it is a great PSS (I have the 650w version of this power supply and I have had no problems with it so I'm sure you won't either).
Hope I helped;D
