Building a dell t1600 up to be best analysis machine it can

Hey everyone,

looking to help out my company by building a K2000 gpu, 16GB ram, and ssd for medium to above medium solidworks simulation and large assembly work. Anyone have any suggestions for me in finding a 4x4GB pc3 1600MHz-ecc memory that dell would be ok with? Also, if anyone out there has gone above and beyond in spec'ing a new Power supply/Cooling combo in order to get a bigger GPU in there i would really appreciate it.

Dell officially recommends only DDR3-1333MHz memory for your server but theoretically, 1600MHz and 1866MHz should work (but not guaranteed). Well, the maximum for your system is 32GB with both ECC and Non-ECC acc to the latest update. Click on any of the links below to confirm the same:

I'd suggest that you go with 1333MHz instead of 1600MHz. But if you want to risk it all and go for 1600MHz that's your choice probably worth a shot. You can find the memory in the following links.

Download the latest version of BIOS (latest A15) from the support site or click here

Note when updating the BIOS:
Please note that if the A03 or before A03 BIOS is currently installed on your system you must first update to A04 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.
Please note that if the A04 or after A04 BIOS and before A08 is currently installed on your system
you must first update to A08 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.

Good luck with the memory upgrade!! As far as the PSU is concerned it is not clear whether your system uses Standard ATX version or proprietary design model. So i cannot help you there. Maybe go anything below 450W or 500W. It should be more than enough for the job. Dell recommends 340W PSU(the highest power).

Holy crap thanks a ton Lego House? Why does the dell say maximum memory capacity per DIMM is 4gb then say max memory is 32GB? Idiotic. However, great news that it will go to 32 GB, as I figured this much. I will stick to the 1333MHz per your suggestion, thank you for that.

I will lookino a power supply for this beast as I am fairly certain that the units we have contain the upgraded 320W-90% EFF version. Question for you, since the T1600 manual says it goes for 75W max gpu power draw and the K2000 is only a 51W card, would I even need to replace to a bigger PS if I chose to move forward with the 32gb of memory? If possible I would step up to a higher end card if you think a new PS for the build mentioned above and go all out.

No, even with 32GB of memory the current PSU should work fine as memory does draw too much power but you may have consider the other way if you are to upgrade a high end GPU. The reason why 4GB is considered as the highest sized stick is probably at the time of the server launch perhaps only 4GB was available and maybe 8GB came later and so they may have added it. It should work with a BIOS update. Hope that helps.
