Building A Gaming PC! Looking for the Right GPU to use in my build!

Hello everyone! I am building a gaming PC. I'm having trouble picking the right GPU. I can't decide whether to pick the Asus Strix GTX 970 4GB or the MSI R9 390 Gaming 8GB.
(This is my first time getting into building an actual PC and I'm still very new to this)

Have you considered the R9 200 series? The R9 300 series is nothing but a rebrand of the previous 200 series with higher clocks. If you are gaming at 1080p/1440p resolutions, the 8GB is not going to do much of anything for you in terms of performance.

At that price point, I would probably look at a R9 290X that can be had for $30-40 less than those two cards and offers almost identical performance to the MSI 390 you mentioned.

Well, if you will be able to handle R9 390 temperature and if power consuption is not problem for you then I would suggest you buying R9 390. If you will decide to buy GTX 970 then choose Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 GAMING because it's overcloking and cooling is OP and costs same as ASUS strix.

I second that Gigabyte GTX 970 suggestion. I plan on buying it for my 1080p Skylake build.
