Hello,

I am building a gaming PC and would like some advices on what to buy. Heres what I've planned so far:

-Intel I7 4770(K?)
-4g Gigabyte GTX 770 GPU, Is the GTX 780 one worth it?
-8 or 16 g RAM

I would like to know what motherboard to buy, and if I should change any of my PC's components.

Thanks in advance,

-M

The standard gaming build right now is:
2x4 gb ram DDR3 1600 minimum, go faster if the price difference is small.
If you aren't overclocking, any decent brand 1150 motherboard will do.
i5 4670 (if not overclocking)
GTX 770 is plenty fast for 1080p and most games run completely maxxed out. The GTX 780 is quite a bit more money for nominal performance gains. If you are gaming at high resolutions or multiple monitor than the 780 or 780ti may be worth it. If you are gaming at 1080p then a 770 is probably fine, unless you have to max every single setting. For instance, I can get great frame rates on the modern titles with max textures, shadows, etc, but the performance starts to wane when you turn 16x AF, tri filtering etc..

Keep in...

i5 4670K or the i7 4770K?
The i5 is a bit slower and doesn't have multithreading like the i7.
However 4 cores is enough for 99% of the games and the i5 is $100 cheaper than the i7.
So the i5 for gaming has my blessing. :p

Get the gtx780 it's defo worth it. The gk110 is a beast compared to the 770's gk104.

Ram, 8gb is enough but if u want 16gb and have the money to spend. Why not?

For the cpu you need a 1150 socket mobo (first one that came to mind :p).

Actually I don't plan to overclock, and I meant I7 4770. My bad.
Is buying an i5 now worth it? Isn't it better to buy an i7 now since the games in a couple of years will be more demanding?
I'll go with 8GB ram then, does it make a big difference ?

thanks for the answers !

If you don't mind the price increase of $100 for not a lot more of "bang" for gaming then get the i7 4770.
Do keep in mind you can't "futureproof" your pc, such a thing does not exist.

About the RAM 8gb is plenty you just need to watch out for 1 thing, haven't had it myself but compatibility might sometimes be an issue. Each type/brand has a QVL (Quality Vendor List) code.

Corsair RAM
CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10 is the QVL of this particular piece of RAM.

Mobo's come with a QVL list, so you can be 100% sure it's compatible.
Motherboard i linked
click on memory support and look up the QVL in the list.
If it's listed it will work, if not it might work.

The RAM i linked is listed in there so it would work. :)

Keep in mind the GTX 770 is a GTX 680 that runs faster and cooler. GTX 680s still sell for over 500$, while they 770 can be had araound $330ish. The 760 and 770 are the best card for your money right now, you have to pay the premium for a 780 which will still be obsolete about the same time the 770 will be.
