Hi Guys,

I'm about to purchase the parts for and put together the below build but thought I'd come get some advice first.

Graphics Card: MSI R9 390x 8 gig, 512bit (Already purchsed so can't change but hearing some opinions would still be appreciated)
Motherboard: MSI 990 FXA ATX
Processor: AMD FX-9590 Vishera Black Edition, 8x Cores, 4.7GHz (5.0GHz OC)
Memory: 16gig 1866Mhz CL9 (Corsair or Gskill)
Power Supply: Corsair RM1000x
Tower: NZXT Phantom 820 (Black)
Hard Drive s: 240Gig SSD (probably Kingston). Western-Digital Blue 1TB
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX

Any advise would be highly appreciated.

Solution
DO NOT GET THE FX 9590 it comes at a base clock of 5GHZ meaning it runs hot and you will need alot of cooling and for that price it isnt worth it.
I'd get the i7 6700k because of DDR4 ram support
or a i7 5820k if you can afford it.
Then just pair it with a cryotigh H7 or something

Any particular reason? Does it overheat or have compatibility issues?

If your building for mainly gaming, using an Intel processor is going to be cheaper and will perform much better.

I know, its disappointing but AMD doesn't really have much in the high end market right now. Admittedly the FX chips are okay for a few odd tasks but they're reaching EOL. Hopefully Zen coming out this fall/winter into next year will be better, looks like Haswell level performance.

why to get intel cpu wise and not amd

intel:
- stronger single core( games don't utilise more than 4 cores)-> better fps
- more efficient-> less wattage -> less heat
- stress efficient-> can handle high situations better which result in a more stability.

amd:
more cores-> less rendering time
last cpu release was in 2012
more heat
inconsistent under high gaming situations
i just quit here u get the point....

Thanks guys. Seriously, you guys probably saved me a ton of hassle. Is the Intel Core i5-6600K good enough or should I spend the little extra and go for something like the Intel Core i7-4790. I know almost nothing about Intel.

Another thing I'm noticing. The DDR4 ram (AMD only supported DDR3) seems to have a very high CL (like CL15). Does this make a big difference? For example comparing 16gig 1866Mhz CL9 DDR3 to 16gig 3000MHz CL15 DDR4

Depends on whether you intend to overclock or not. The system I gave you above can be overclocked although probably not needed with the 390X. Just about any of the Skylake or Haswell i5 or i7's will perform the same when running at the same speeds. Even an i3 6100 and $40.00 dollar motherboard could run the 390X.

^ This ^ ...is absolute bulls--t.

The only reason to avoid the 9590 is price -vs- performance. The only reason I got one was because I got it for $180 on a holiday sale. That made it just $20 more than the 8350 and worth it at the time. But right now, not worth it.

Now that we've gotten that fanboy nonsense out of the way.

If you have to build now, I would go with an i5 as others have suggested. AMD Zen will be nice but it's still several months out so that might be too long a wait for you. Skylake 6600k or even Devil's Canyon 4690k will serve you quite nicely.

Thanks for your response. Mind telling me which of these you think would be best? Both within my willingness price range
Intel Core i7 6700K 6th Generation Quad-Core 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo)
Intel Core i7-4790K Devil’s Canyon Quad-Core 4.0GHz (4.4GHz Turbo)

I'll probably go with 3000MHz memory
