hi

I want to upgrade my pc

my current pc specs

i7 3770 @ 3.4 ghz
gtx 770 4 gb
16 gb ddr3 ram
ddr3 mobo, idk the name/model
700 watt psu

the pc iam planning to buy

i7 8700k
gtx 1060 6 gb
ddr4 mobo
16 gb ram
144hz 24 inch monitor ( I have 60hz now )

so my questions are

- is it a good build ?

- is the psu I have( 700 watts) enough for the new build ?

- what can I do with the old gpu ( gtx 770 ) ? its a waste to through it away

- which vendor is the best for gtx 1060, and does higher number of fans on the gpu mean better cooling ?

- will I need liquid cooling for this cpu or gpu ? or only If I plan to overclock ?

-is there a big difference in performance if I buy a cheap or expensive motherboard?

- I have to choose between 144hz 1080p monitor and 60hz 4k monitor, because 144hz 4k is too expensive for me. does 144hz make a big difference in gaming? I never tried it

thanks.

I'd keep your current CPU/MB/RAM and buy a better GPU such as the 1070 or better.

-Sell the 770 while it's still worth something.
-Depends on the quality of the PSU.

The difference from 60 to 144 can be quite drastic depending on the game, in single payer games or less competitive titles you may not see much of a difference however if play more competitive FPS or racing games then the difference is really noticeable.

For around your upgrade budget I would go with this as long as your games support 21:9 ultrawide.

@wildcard999 the main reason iam upgrading because both motherboard and cpu are not working anymore, the cpu has black dots on it and the pins on the cpu slot are missed up, I sent it to a pc tech and they said that it cant be fixed, will have to replace them.

Well since you need an upgrade, now is the time to forget Intel and go AMD
But if you go Intel, what you have is good, although pointless to get 1060 if you need 144 fps You do need 1070 (maybe wait until end of August for the 1180, who knows of price).
As for PSU you need to give name/model to know if its any good. Maybe it was that, that ruined your CPU.

I see, what is your budget for upgrading and the model of your PSU?

For the monitor upgrade what types of games do you play primarily?

Drop the 8700k to an 8400 and raise the 1060 6gb to a 1070ti. This is a better gaming combo and will get you closer to where you want to be for,a,144hz monitor.

@electrO_90 the problem was heating, in both cpu and gpu it always reach 80-90 C when I play and cause pc to crash. even after reapplying thermal paste on both and adding more fans to the case.

there is huge price difference between 1060 and 1070, I thought 1060 is more than enough for 144 fps in many games

@wildcard999 the pc is still at the tech shop so I dont know the psu model, but I remember it was an expensive one.

budget is around 1300-1500$

games like overwatch, cs go, gta v, pubg, fortnite. but I will get battlefield and other new games soon

If this is too much we can make changes

If the PSU is high end then there's no reason to replace it. For that budget I'd get the 8700K/ a good quality Z370 MB/DDR4 2666mhz+ 2x8gb & a GTX 1070 ti or 1080. I would pair all of this with a 1440P/144hz monitor which would be good for those types of games.

You will need to lower the settings to use the 1060 6gb at 144hz. The 1070 ti gives you higher settings and much more longevity with the GPU, also it's a much better choice for 1440P/144hz. I suppose you could go with the 1060 6gb for 1080P/144hz but if you already have a 1080P monitor I would want to go for a upgrade in resolution.

I would even recommend 21:9 ultrawide at 2560x1080P however out of your listed games Overwatch doesn't support it (on purpose) so you would have black bars on the sides.

As for your other games they'd look great in 21:9 IPS.

I have the cheaper one and I love it for gaming and while you won't have the 144hz (unless you want to spend $500) you do have the extra peripheral on the sides which is good for FPS and it help with other player who try to flank you and personally I feel like 75hz is enough for most games (I've had both this monitor and a 1080P/144hz 16:9).
