Hello,

I want to build a small render farm at home to render a short 3D animation. Most of the time, I'm using MAYA, V-RAY for work. I want to get 8-10 nodes with 1U servers. My budget is around $10,000.

Here's the configuration I'm thinking for each node.
CPU: Intel Intel Xeon E3-1240V3 Haswell 3.4GHz LGA 1150 80W Quad-Core Server Processor BX80646E31240V3
CASE: SUPERMICRO CSE-813MTQ-350CB Black 1U Rackmount Server Chassis 350W
MOBO: SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SLM-F-O uATX Server Motherboard LGA 1150 Intel C224 DDR3 1600
Heatsink: SUPERMICRO SNK-P0046P CPU Heatsink for Xeon Processor X3400 / L3400 Series
MEMORY: CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
SSD: SAMSUNG 830 Series 2.5-Inch 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7PC128B/WW

Is this setup will work well?
Are there any other cost efficient 1U chasis?
Will this system be okay in terms of cooling and air flow?
Are there any other better solution for this system?

I would appreciate any suggestion or solutions.

Best,

Look memory- maybe you need ECC memory for that mobo cpu combo.
Ask from supermicro can that mobo work with normal non-ECC memory. Not sure of this. Xeon works fine with any 1150 desktop mobo with any 1333/1600MHz memory. But that mobo I do not know. Best to make sure.

Chepar cpu is intel xeon 1230V3. or older intel xeon 1230V2 and you can save lot and you do not lose anything?
Price do have huge diffrence.
xeon 1230V3 is 265 $ is newegg. and 1230V2 is 200$in microcenter. 220 in other store. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80637e31230v2

Need video card? Or do you need cpu that do have video chip in cpu? (iGPU)
Then you must buy xeon 1245 or better.
