Building a machine for video editing

Hi there,

I've built numerous computers in my day but my last rig lasted me about 10 years (it's a core 2 duo), so I am a little rusty on all the latest and greatest hardware.

I have gotten into a lot of video editing lately and the old computer SIMPLY does not cut it. I have $1200ish to spend on a new rig.

I have a preferred partner membership at NCIX (meaning I get cheap computer parts). What CPU, motherboard, SSD, RAM combination should I be looking at?

I need a mother board with many USB ports and over 5 Sata plugins. I have a lot of HardDrives.

Any tips?

I was always under the impressrion that a graphics card didn't play any part in the compression (that it was all CPU). Is this not the case? Also, do you know if you have to setup Adobe Premier in a special way to make use of the Video Card?

I am wondering because I'm thinking it's an important observation... meaning I'd rather throw more money into the CPU.

Also, I need a mother board with as many sata ports as possible because I have MANY HardDrives to attach.
