Hi Guys,

Could you please advise me on the best setup for a home media server. This needs to be able to stream the content to my TV (I currently do this through my PS3 using TVersity) and to my main PC (runs Vista Ultimate).

I'm looking for roughly 2TB's of space and something that has low power consumption so it can be left on 24/7. I need a list of the parts to get and the best way to set up the network. I'm hoping to keep this quite cheap maybe around £300 if at all possible.

Thanks for your help

My suggestion is to go for a 2.66 core 2 duo cpu, an asus m-atx motherboard, 2gigs of ram, possibly a 9400gt graphics card, and a wireless n card if you want to stream content wirelessly. I'll do a bit of research for you and post it here in the next couple of days, i don't have time right now, to busy with work.

Lucky for you i built a media server for a client today:) heres the specs of it:

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L $84
CPU: Intel E5200 pentium Dual Core 2.5ghz $119
RAM:Corsair CM2X 2gb $35
Graphics card: HIS HD4350 $75
HDD: 3x Western digital Caviar green power 1TB $269 each
Optical Drive: LG GGC-H20L-OEM bluray drive $135
Case: Thermaltake VF7001BNS $325
PSU: Corsair CMPSU-450VXAU 450w power supply $125

Total build cost: $1705 Australian dollars

You may want to change parts eg. you probably wouldn't want all 3 hard drives. You might want to find a better motherboard that has all the graphics outputs(hdmi, dvi etc) built in so you don't have to buy the graphics card. Anyway hope this helps you a bit :)
